Do you have to have deep frames to frame pins?

I haven't started yet but was looking at WalMart at frames and posters etc today, but DH said, don't you think you would need a deep frame to frame pins? I have no idea. Would I? They have some really cute patriotic frames that my Mickey Patriotic Pins would look great in. Any advice on that? Thanks!

I have framed a few map pin sets and I used the deep frames. But I really don't know that was necessary, but it sure helped.

I didn't see the deep frames in WalMart...I live in a small town and don't know where else to look....Anyone know an online source? I agree it would probably help and look a little better too, but when framing a big set like the 100 years set I would need a BIG, DEEP, FRAME...LOL and have no idea where to get them.

They have the shadowbox frames at craft stores like Michaels or Ben Franklin.

We've framed a few sets with regular frames. Just be REALLY careful you don't scratch the pins, though.

That is right. You can get Shadow Boxes at any craft store. Also you can use a regular frame and add a space to the back of the glass to add a little depth. These can also be bought at a craft store.

If you use just the shadowboxes here are some examples.
I use the oak boxes 11" X 14" from Michaels.
Just caught a sale last week and bought them for $8 each.
Its so crowded in my room I am now using the door.
Guess I will use the ceiling soon and use the pins as stars!

I saw a new group of frames at Kmart this week. They were made for pin collectors who like to frame pins with photos. The mattes have one to three photo openings, but are positioned off-center (above the midline), so there's lots of room for pins. The other great part is these frames are much deeper than the usual packaged frames and include a spacer between the matte and the backing so a pin would easily fit in the photo opening and not touch the glass.

You order frame sides (they come in pairs) and then plexiglass and backing. You can even get thick foam filled mounting board to stick the pins into. They definitely do sell shadowbox thicknesses (which would be cool for making a souvenir shadowbox).

I adore their frames and use them for all my poster needs. They are cheap and easy to assemble.
