do you have to clean house before you leave?

when you go on a vacation weather it's to disney or some other vacation are you like me ,and have to clean your house before you go? i don't know why,but before i go on any trip i have to make sure the house is clean. i guess its to make sure that i don't have to deal with a mess when i get back.

That's me to a "t". I love to come back to a spotless house. I know I'll have lots of work to do once I get back, mainly a ton of laundry, grocery shopping, and errands. It's so nice to start with a clean slate!

My wife and others keep our house spotless. The house has to be completely clean if we are going out of town. My wife will not go to bed at night unless the dishes are cleaned and put away. My wife has to make the bed every morning before she gets dressed.

It doesn't have to be spotless, but I do try to at least make it look neat before heading to the airport. The trip I just got back from last week, I really cleaned up well because a friend of mine was going to be house/pet sitting and I wanted it nice for her.

My kids have teased me for YEARS about my cleaning ritual and I feel so much better today having read that I am not the only one!!! Wow, I had no idea there were others like me!! I will not rest until it's all done and that may be well after midnight the night before an early morning flight. But it's ok because I know I'm coming home to a clean house with nothing to do for at least a minute and a half!!

I'm the same way! I'll delay packing to clean the house! My DH doesn't understand it at all. He thinks I'm a nut.

Gotta have the house picked up (including the kids rooms), laundry and dished done. The bed made (it is made everyday regardless of a vacation) but I do not change the sheets b4 we leave. Very little grocery shopping gets done the week before we leave. Instead we plan meals around whatever is in the house. DH thinks I am nuts for insisting the house be clean before we leave but he is now used to it.
Along the same lines, packing must be done within a few hours of arriving home. The one time we did not unpack right away, the suitcases did not get uppaqcked for days. It bugged me to see them sitting there but I had lost my motivation.

Same here! DH doesn't understand that one either. I start with the toiletry bag, shoes, etc.. I want to be able to locate things later and I don't want everyone in the family asking me where things are (and they do if things aren't in their normal spots). And like you, if it doesn't get done close to returning home, it usually doesn't get done in a timely manner.

Last Aug dh and I went to DW by ourselves. We cleaned the house before we left. As we were heading out the door our last comment to our sons were "we expect it this clean when we get home." It was

Nope. I am housework challenged and am always struggling to keep my house clean (not ADD, but when I start cleaning, you would think so). That said, I do clean the kitchen. I learned this the hard way--went on a field exercise and left some shrimp tails and apparently even a shrimp or two in the sink. When I came home two weeks later, it looked like guacamole. The apartment just reeked, too. That was 20 years ago, but I have never forgotten that--no matter how much I want to get on the road, the kitchen has to be done. It's pretty much a given that my bed won't be made, though.

I love coming home to a clean house, so I make sure it's clean before I leave.

My DH has always thought I was crazy for this, but coming home to a clean house and fresh sheets is a must.

I take bags to sort our dirty laundry into along with a stain stick, that way it can be thrown into the washer right away.
