Do you have to be MDE friends to share a resort reservation?

On my May trip I will be sharing with a friend. The room is booked through a TA and has all of our names on it. We each have our own MDEs and aren't connected via Friends & Family yet. I'm not even sure if we will really want to, since I know my MDE is pretty cluttered with all my bookings (lots of split stay resorts, plus ADRs for 2 trips, and now FPs have started), plus others for other MDE friends who have upcoming visits. We will be doing some things together (along with other friends), but also probably split up, so we both should have the reservation in our MDE at the 180 day mark (in November).

I guess, I'm asking if I can give her the confirmation number and we both can upload it into our separate MDEs? Or will it only let one person be the "primary" holder and they can only add people they are already connected to? Does that make sense?

Based on my recent experience: You need to connect with them first. Then one person can add the reservation and link the names from the friends and family list. One way to reduce the amount of information they see about your existing reservations is to change the permissions.

My Disney Experience > Friends and Family > Update (beside their name) > Select "Only our shared plans"
