Do you have set vacation plans?

My wife and I tend to every year have a short getaway to Las Vegas, a long weekend at the beach, a long weekend to the mountains, and a cruise. Then every other year or so the cruise gets replaced by a theme park trip.

We went through a phase before covid where we included international destinations but have not yet returned to international travel. The value does not seem to be there like it was 4 years ago.

My brother in law and his wife does the beach. They have set weeks where they are at the same beach, same hotel, same restaurants, same everything every year. It is what makes them happy. I suggested they look into a timeshare but they looked at me like I was an alien and said then they would be forced to go to the same place every year.

Do you find you do the same trip year after year or do you mix it up?

Sort of, every year we rent a beach house for a week with my sister’s family, dates depend on the kids’ schedules and what we can find. For the first time ever we are renting the same house as the previous year, booked already for 8/24, the owner is letting us book directly with him Vs. Vrbo saving over $4000 in taxes and fees.

Always 2-3 WDW trips, mostly centered around rD weekends. The trip length for those vary from 3 to 7 days. Almost always one international trip. Then usually 2 other week long US trips (did a Caribbean cruise for one of those instead this year). Then several other 3-4 day weekend trips that vary, but generally involve either races, hiking, or amusement parks.

Not this year. I don't vacation much. I go to WDW roughly every couple of years, but currently have no plans to go there until the end of 2025. I think next year my family might go for a weekend up to Knoebel's, great place. My little Godson will love all the old rides.

We’ve been going to WDW almost every year for the past 20 years. If not WDW, then it’s usually a road trip. We’ve been to the Outer Banks several times. Coastal Maine once. Couple cruises. My husband is a SCUBA diver and sometimes he does a trip and if it’s in the budget we try to still go to WDW. We’re heading to WDW in about 3 weeks for 9 nights with our son, daughter-in-law and 3 granddaughters.

Always somewhere camping. Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi get most of my vacation dollars.

Not anymore. We used to take the kids to Illinois to see their Great-Grandparents and to Texas to see their Great-Grandparents and Grandparents. All those folks have passed away and the kids are grown and have moved out on their own.
And before we retired, getting the time off for vacations took planning. At my wife's employer vacation requests were due September 1st for the next year.
Now vacations are kind of free form. We can go where we want, when we want.

We do a mix of both the same places and new adventures. We go to Florida (usually Orlando) every February for two weeks to get a break from the cold. We go camping for two weeks in Maine every summer to the same place I have gone since I was born. We go to Hilton Head once or twice a year for 10 days and then try to mix in other places we might like to see.

We also love cruises and are actually leaving Thursday for a 9 night Fall Foliage Cruise on Royal Caribbean.

My daughter is doing a month long backpacking trip in Europe (landed in Amsterdam today), so now we have Europe back on the brain. So that is a possibility for next year along with a possible Alaskan cruise.

We love to travel!

We typically travel around the same time every year and to the same area. But not always staying at the exact same hotel and doing the exact things.

WDW: 5-6 times. Always in October and December with random other dates that work with our schedule
NY Tennis Open around Labor Day
DL: Once a year
Maui: Once and sometimes twice a year. Usually in early spring and always at Westin Kaanapali Ocean Villas
Palm Springs: Once or twice a year for tennis tournaments
San Francisco: Couple times a year to visit family
DCL: Just starting, but probably once a year in January/February

For a while it was one week in Disney and one week in Europe, but our last Disney trip was May 2021 and they haven't made me want to come back. So since then it's been a 2 week Europe trip and a 1 week Europe trip.

We have repeated some places that we loved (Seville, Granada, Paris), but also mix it up.
