Do you have Native American/Indigenous ancestry? I’m curious how many on the Dis have a Native American/Indigenous ancestor and how much you know about the culture of your Native American/Indigenous ancestry. This thread is meant to be respectful and informative about knowledge on the different tribes that are part of our diverse nations. :-)🇺🇸🇨🇦

23 and Me says I have 0.1% Indigenous American ancestry, which I guess is the smallest amount I can have and be said to have any.

They also revise it periodically, so it might be gone the next time they update it.

Eastern European mutt - Poland, Lithuania great grandparents came directly from those countries

Yes, on my Dad's side. Both he and my grandfather are dead -- it's their bloodline and my grandma has no idea. I wish I had asked more before both of them passed :( I need to do some research. 23 and Me has it "confirmed" as well so I don't think this is a "my grandma is a Cherokee princess" type of a thing ;)

Yes, on my father's side the story is a little got separated from her Creek peoples on the trail of tears heading to Oklahoma and a local farm family found her, raised her and she married their son. On my mama's side, we actually have all the ancestry. My great+++ grandfather married a local Cherokee woman and I'm descended from their son.

I vote maybe. I grew up believing my grandmother was half or full Canadian First Nation on her mothers side. However when my mom did her DNA test it came back with very little, so I guess that wasn't the case.

DNA can vary on what gets passed on. Census records would be a good place to see what she listed herself as.

I would guess no, but I haven’t actually made it through all of my genealogy yet. So far, I have English, German and Dutch ancestry. We were always told we had some Irish, but I haven’t found a solid link there yet. However, I have run into a wall on my paternal grandmother’s family on both sides, so I have no clue yet where that will lead me. Her father was born in Texas, but the family moved back and forth several times between Texas and what became West Virginia, and I haven’t been able to find where his parents came from. Her mother’s side is even more obscure, and I have found nothing more than her mother’s name. There was a rumor in the family regarding a desertion and a murder, so I am curious how that will play into it. I have heard no rumors of any Native American ancestry in the family though, so if it came to pass it would be a huge surprise.

I bought Ancestry for my parents one Christmas. My mom came up 100% Irish (which we expected). My dad was something like 98% Irish 2% Scottish. So no indigenous (to the US) people in my bloodline.

That's pretty incredible. I didn't know such "pure-breed" people lived in the US melting pot.
