Do you have hair cutting scissors?

I've been surprised how many people don't seem to have them. I saw a headline with Kelly Ripa saying "I cut my hair with craft scissors because we obviously don't have hair scissors."

Maybe it's because I'm frugal and try to save money on haircuts? I had a small pair with blunt ends that I used when the kids were little. Now I have a bigger pair because I have bangs and I need to trim them pretty frequently. So I have TWO pairs of scissors, both of which I've had for many years. DH has a beard trimmer that I've been using on his head now too. It just seems weird that I have something that people who care a lot more about their appearance and spend more money on it than I do don't have.

So, do YOU have hair cutting scissors?

Since the shutdown happened, we have bought a hair clippers set with scissors for my DH, and we have used it. But before that, we didn’t have these items as we never needed them.

1. I have girls, I never cut their hair myself when they were growing up. Kids cuts are inexpensive and easily accessible where I live. Also they generally had long hair so no styles that needed constant maintenance.

2. I don’t have bangs like you do, so nothing to cut myself.

FYI a friend of mine is a hairdresser and cringes when she sees people cutting hair with craft scissors or fabric scissors. I guess the blade is somehow different and “ damages “ or does a bad cut on the hair follicle.
Would you mind asking him his reasoning? Probably one or both of the first two reasons, but the hair follicle is the end that keeps the hair attached to the body.
If you cut through sandpaper it'll help to sharpen them.
if no sandpaper, cut through multiple layers of aluminum foil, multiple times.

Yes and they are used frequently. Had them for 6-7 years.

I've had some for many years. I have routinely cut my husband's and my dad's hair for years. (Used to cut my son's when he was little, but now he prefers to get it done.) I still haven't resorted to cutting my own yet though.

We have dog cutting trimmer and scissors that we never use on her because she gets groomed. Not even sure why we got them. We did sort of trim her bangs during all this because she couldn't go to the groomer until last week. Poor thing had over a pound of hair cut off her. I do trim my own bangs but, alas, I just use the bathroom scissors that are there for cutting off tags. I did break down and trim the ends of my hair with them as well. I just don't really care and rarely even go to the hairdresser to get my hair trimmed. Maybe once every 2 years if I'm wearing it long, otherwise I do it myself. If I'm wearing it short I do go and get it trimmed.

I've been cutting my own hair for years and I've never owned hair scissors, I always just used my sewing scissors, they are sharp as heck and do a great job.

I was incorrect in using the word follicle. Oops. But cutting with paper scissors messes with the ends.

Never owned them and would never attempt a home haircut, even when my kids were little. I'll chalk that up to all of us having really crappy, fine, weird hair to begin with and it's not easy to just cut and come out of it nicely.

But I did order a pair off of Amazon at the start of the shutdowns. My stylist put up a Facebook video on how to self-trim your bangs so you didn't look like you cut straight across. I knew I'd be needing to do that so I order the correct scissors and I did trim my own. These scissors are LETHAL.

I just received a pair that I ordered from Amazon. Never had any reason to have them before. I would never have considered cutting hair until now. Salons are opening in my area now, but no way will we feel safe going there, so I am going to be in charge with trimming my girls' hair. Luckily, all three of us just have one length hair-- no layers, no bangs, etc. So, hopefully I can handle it!

I did not, but I ordered clippers and a pair of hair cutting scissors when Michigan started their lockdown back in March. I’ve now given DH three home haircuts. I’m positive he’s going to fire me when he can get back to the barber ...

We do have hair cutting scissors. I know this because if I ever try to use them on something else DW reminds me they are ONLY to be used on hair. :earboy2:

I don't have hair cutting scissors, although I have trimmed my bangs a couple times with craft scissors.

Back in the day, when I had long hair, I used to trim up the ends using my embroidery scissors.

No special hair cutting implements in this house. Happily, 3 out of the 4 of us in the house had all just had haircuts when the lock down started. Unhappily, one was due for a hair cut and now looks like an escapee from the 60s.

We have 2 pairs. I haven't been to the hairdresser in years because I'm too stingy and don't want to pay a fortune for a basic straight cut (especially when they charge extra for long hair). We bought a second pair because we took our first ones when we visited my sister at Disney on her DCP so that Mum could give her hair a trim and then left them with her - she was very popular with all the other CPs who didn't have the time or money for hair cuts!

Apparently I think I do-I'll let you know if my hairdresser agrees with that assessment soon.

Yes and I used them tonight! I bought a whole kit when my husband and I first were married. We couldn’t afford for him to get his hair cut too often so I used the clippers and scissors every few months on his hair. Now, 24 years later I cut his hair and did a pretty good job if I don’t say so myself. I thought I would be rusty but he loved it!
