Do you have friend like this.....

Four kids is a lot to handle and that might be why they insist on getting away from all of the kiddies. DH and I have one child and we know that we have an easier time with him tagging along than our friends do with their 2 DDs. DH and I do take a weekend once in a blue moon and do something sans DS, but our long vacations are always family vacations.

We take one adult only vacation each year. Usually to Sandals in the Caribbean. My son just turned 3 and this summer we'll be taking him to NH for 3 days to go to the theme parks up there. It's only a 2 hour drive for us. This November we have a Sandals vacation planned just for us.

Next year we're doing Secrets in Mexico (adult only) in March and Disney with him in November. Starting next year every year will be an adult trip and a family trip.

I do agree that we need our adult only trips but I would never go to Disney with out my son.

Some future trips we have planned for him are Beaches (owned by Sandals) in Jamaica or Turks & Caicos, and Ireland when he's a little older.

I have a sister-in-law who is like this. She wanted to come with us to WDW this year without her kids, we are bringing our two! I asked her why she wouldn't bring her kids to WDW, she told me they wouldn't like it!! They are 7 and 10!! Give me a break!! What kid doesn't like WDW??? She then told me we could go to Pleasure Island and do stuff while my DH took care of our kids. Let's just say, she is not coming!! Yikes!!

We don't have any friends like that. I couldn't imagine having a vacation without my four ds (ages 9,8,4,1). They are a lot of work but we always vacation with them. We also do alot of local activities like the movies or the zoo. Alone or couple time is also important to us so we go on dates when we can find a sitter brave enought to watch four boys. :rotfl2: Our time to vacation as a couple will come when the boys get older. That will come soon enough as long as we stop reproducing now. I love my boys but just might go crazy with five of them.

Its not even so much the fact they don't vacation with them, a lot of people don't vacation, it's the fact of how do you have 4 children and find a way to not have them EVERY weekend....I have 1 and not that I would want that option, I wouldn't have the option of being kidless EVERY weekend...The younger ones haven't noticed whats going on but the oldest (14) has, so he'll come to my house and hang out, play playstation with my DBF, he's getting older so every weekend he doesn't want to go to grammies....we would take the younger ones with us to do things, but they are never home...

I imagine that since they are a blended family the dynamics are a little different. They started their marriage w/ 4 kids. I can understand needing some adult time to strenghthen their bond. But what about the children's bond and the family's bond as a unit? That's sad. And what's worse is that the mom is a teacher and studied early childhood development and I can't believe she's being so selfish. Just keep being a good role model and maybe they'll see the light.

That is very sad!! It sounds like my sister. We are such opposites! She has 3 kids and it seems like she'll do anything to stay away from home so she doesn't have to deal w/them. Or if she does she only wants to spend time w/the oldest... I just want to slap her! You have 3 kids not ONE! She'll call me to see if we'll watch the other 2 or something...ALL weekend!!! No, not hardly!! I'm not watching her 2 year old while he screams all night wanting his mommy!! I guess my ds5 is a little spoiled he's been on the disney cruise 3 times, WDW 3 times...getting ready for the 4th in 39 days :) ...I take him all over the place. It would kill me to go anywhere w/o him... as you see..he's going to be there for our honeymoon!! Hey..its a package deal :)!! Either you take both of us or forget it! It drives me crazy seeing parents like this. Actually that's why I left my ex. He became very abusive and had absolutly nothing to do w/our ds at all!!! And that is after trying for years... several miscarriages!!! UHHH Unbelievable! I know we need "our" time but that's why he goes to bed earlier than us :)!!! some people are just unbelievable! They really don't know what they're missing out on!
