Do you have cable in your home? POLL

I'm just curious as to how many DISers have cable. DH and I decided to forego cable when we moved into our new place. As much as I enjoyed shows like Law&Order...all episodes, The Golden Girls, Star Trek:TNG...some, not all, of the commercials and other shows to me were icky and offensive! I also watched too many soap operas and I didn't want that garbage in my home anymore. So DH and I have been renting Star Trek:TNG over the last few weeks....LOVE that show! And we also watch a lot of DVDs that we already own. So nice to not have that "distraction" in my home and it was a distraction for me because I didn't always know when to turn it off. Where I work we have cable, so I always know what's going on in the world because I work 5 days a week.

What's your opinion DISers? Also not having cable is one less bill in my home, so that's a plus too. I don't even have the basic channels where I am because you can't get squat without the cable connection.

I have a dish....I'd be lost without SoapNet.

I don't have any of the movie channels though. I prefer to buy DVDs and, when I tested out the different movie packages, I found I was watching movies I already owned.

I mostly watch SoapNet and TLC and Discovery and Discovery Health. I'm a nerd.

I have both cable and satellite. Sat for my main TV viewing and cable for internet. The cable also have basic TV (same price as just internet) and I use that when the sat goes out (which isn't often).

We have cable...I call it the maga package! I am a TV junkie..Lifetime, Nick at Night and cable news. My DH loves the sports, the kids like the movies and music stations. It is also our internet connection, I couldn't and wouldn't want live without it. We used to have satelite, but I like the digital cable much better.

Me too, too much filth of the premium channels for them to get my money. Too much filth on the basic channels too, but I gotta have my ESPN.

We have the premium package. If it weren't for DH I wouldn't have all the movie channels. Just baisc and extended basic so that DD could watch the Disney Channel. I watch a lot of TLC and HGTV.

We go back and forth, right now we have it because a good deal came up. When summer comes who knows

I have to agree about the extra bill, and being in a large city we get alot of "air" channels so its not to bad when we don't have cable.

we have digital cable (no pay movie channels)but I am considering cutting back to basic....no channels except local or expanded basic, but I'm not sure yet what channels that will include. We had added the digital when we bundled our phone, cable and internet with Comcast. We have since switched to Verizon DSL and Verizon phone, and I hate getting the cable bill for $65 every month just for tv.

We got Direct TV (because it was cheaper, not because we had a compulsive need for 800+ channels). I like it a lot, it's just hard to sift through all the crap to get to something you want to watch.

We have digital cable but I hate how much it costs, especially given the fact that we don't watch nearly the number of channels that are offered. We really only watch the cable news stations, Food, TLC , Sports, and HGTV....if I could just have those, I'd be happy Instead, we have about 900 channels of garbage....

We have DirectTV. When we turned in our cable boxes they never came and disconnected us from the pole so we can at least get basic channels when the weather is bad.

Yes, we have cable. I really enjoy watching TV in my free time, so we don’t plan to get rid of it. Plus, I have TiVo, so it records shows I like (both those I schedule and its recommendations). That saves me from having to watch whatever happens to be on.
