Bought my daughter an itouch for Christmas and she wants the iPhone in May when her contract is up. If you have both do you use both?

i only have an iphone, i don't think you really need both

because on my phone I currently have over 1800 songs and still plenty of room for more so i have no need for an ipod, just one more thing for my to miss place some days too lol

An iTouch is an iPhone without the phone, so if she is going to get an iPhone in May, I am not sure I would give her the iTouch...

My DD15 does. When she first got her iphone (2 years ago), she thought that she would use it for everything so when her ipod died soon after getting the iphone we didn't replace it. She used the iphone for everything for about a year but then she used birthday money to buy a touch because she was frustrated by the short battery life of the phone if she used it for music. Basically she takes the phone with her everywhere and keeps a short playlist on it. She uses the touch more at home for music and audio books.

She's getting the 4s phone at the end of the month hopefully the battery will be improved over the 3.

My husband has both. He had the iTouch before the phone. Once he had the phone, his iTouch became a secondary device primarily used by the kids when they want to play. An iTouch (in my mind) is simply an iPhone without the phone. I find it to be a redundant device for one person.

I have both. The iPod is used mostly for working out and in the car, or places where I can't have a phone. The iPhone sees the most usage though.

I realize they're the same but that one was capable of making calls. I just feel only the phone may be limiting. I have an ipad, classic ipod and nano and use each of them almost daily. Its not even a done deal she gets the iphone because she has to pay for the upgrade (long story) she may not want to give up the money when the time comes.I guess she can always set it in her ihome and use that when she is getting ready.

Really depends on the usage. My dd had the touch when she got the Iphone. She passed the Touch down to her younger brother. She uses the phone for everything now. She doesn't find the battery too short, but is able to charge it every day and can't use it during school hours so I am sure she that makes a difference. I know she has over 600 songs on her phone so I'm pretty sure she's happy with the storage as well.

Ok, my first thought was that if her contract is up in May, she may want to wait for the iPhone 5 as it is rumored to have a larger screen and I am hoping it will be 4G. It is also rumored to come out summer of 2012.

Also, I don't know why she would have to pay for an upgrade, but could you end the contract and switch carriers and then have a better deal?

DH has a blackberry and is due for an upgrade at the end of Dec. He is opting to wait for the iPhone 5 rather than upgrade earlier.

With the most recent release this month, the wait for the next iPhone may be at least a year. Historically, that is the least amount of time between releases: June 2007 (original), July, 2008 (3G), June 2009 (3GS), June 2010 (4) and finally October 2011 (4GS). With the iPhone 4 staying one of the most popular smartphones even a year after its release, I don't see Apple releasing a new phone until they have something new to offer. As to whether there will ever be a larger screen, there are a lot of well connected and intelligent people who think that is what the iPad is for. -- Suzanne

I have both. The ipod touch has all of my music on it and no room for much of anything else. I ripped all of my cd's into my itunes library and there are about 8 days of music in it.

My iphone is primarily a phone but has all my apps, pictures and some video on it.

The ipod rarely leaves the house except for trips. It stays in the cradle that connects it to the home theater speakers so that I can listen to my music whenever I want to.

The iphone goes everywhere I go but that would be the case for just about any cell phone I might own.

If I had to give one up, it would be the ipod. But having both is kind of nice.

Well then, it sounds like your speculation is as good as mine.

If the new one does not have a larger screen, DH will be going with the Android that does.

When I got my iPhone 4, I passed my iPhone 3GS to my DD9 and then passed the iPod Touch to her three year old sister. I did put it in a Woogie.
