What does the Buddy list mean?

And BTW, I think I"m on Dan Murphy's "mental ignore" list.

Yeah, I have had a couple of people on my Ignore list, but only sporadically. These are people who post little to no real content at all, just massive amounts of "smiley posts" and "that's so funny!!" etc. Hey, I like smilies as much as anyone, but when someone overwhelms a thread I like to read by posting 40-50 such nothing posts a day, poof, onto Ignore they go.

yes I do. My eyes started hurting with so much rolling that I have more than a few on ignore. Eyes don't hurt anymore.

I'm so glad I'm not alone! My ignore list is well into the teens. I look at it as a means to protect my sanity. Usually one good run-in or just noticing a string of posts I find unpleasant are enough to get someone added to my list. DISing is so much more pleasant with it!

The few times I've been really offended, I replied and then closed the window.

So, just out of curiosity, what happens when you're looking at a thread where someone on your ignore list has posted?

I know the post is hidden, but do you somehow know that they posted, like is there an indication that post #4 is hidden? If they start a thread, is the whole thread hidden, or just their posts, so you see a bunch of replies to nothing?

As you can see, I'm quite befuddled by the whole concept of the ignore list.

LindsayDunn, the buddy list makes PMing people easier. Instead of searching for the person and then clicking on "PM user", or whatever the prompt is, the buddy list can be pulled up via "quick links" on the DISboards toolbar and a person can be easily PMed. Their online status can also be checked, but I'm not sure why that would matter to me.

Mrs.Toad, I think that there is a blank post if an ignored poster posts.

For the first time ever I do have someone on my list. And the reason is just too funny! It's because they have something in their signature that I object to, lol. Yep, that's it, I don't like a link they have in their siggie so I just turned them off.

I don't usually care one way or the other about their posts though so I don't mind if someone quotes them. With them on ignore I don't have to look at that siggie and that's good enough for me.

I wonder if the webmasters collect data to see which posters are most commonly on ignore lists? That would make for an interesting read IMHO.
