Do you have a whole house water softener
I have read that the models that have salt that you cant drink the water and cant use for plants...is that correct?
In our house, the softener softens the water that enters the hot water heater (so all hot water is softened) and all the cold water EXCEPT for the kitchen sink cold water faucet. That way we have access to unsoftened water for drinking or cooking. We were told that the softened water would have a higher sodium content.

We have had a Kinetico brand for over 20 years, the same one. We have never had to do anything to it but add salt and it uses very little salt. Before this one we had a Culligan and trust me, the Culligan never even came close to working as well as the kinectico. I'm not sure about now though since we have had this one for over 20 years. I know the Culligan used alot more salt. The downside was the price, the Kinectico is alot more expensive. It has been worth every pennie.

The reviews are great and the price I have found as low as $1400 highest $1900. It is saltless and so on. Here in Ca. some counties wont let you use the salt so I need to find that out.

I have been reading about Culligan and have thought about renting also. I have read that the models that have salt that you cant drink the water and cant use for plants...is that correct?
We have one that uses salt and we cook with our water. We drink bottled but not because of the salt. I know that dh's grandmother had a seperate line installed in her kitchen sink, maybe it was a reverse osmosis, because she could not drink or cook with the softened water. She was on a salt restricted diet.

That would make sense. They make softeners so many different ways it is hard to tell which one is best. There is not to much info on the net about reviews on them. Maybe if I look specifically to Ca. reviews since the water here is so hard you could bite it and break your teeth:lmao:
