We had a tortise shell cat for about 10 years (she died last year). She had this "thing" of burrowing under the covers and things (one of her nicknames was "Lump").
We, we "acquired" anther tortise shell earlier this year (DH plucked her off the street in heavy traffic - she was 7 weeks old at the time) and she has the same behavior. She burrows under rugs and covers.
Is this a tortise shell behavior or is it coincidence?

She also wheezes/moans in her sleep so you know when she's down there.
She just lays there like a lump purring away! I think it's very cute
but she gets very angry when we disrupt her, even if it's just a little peek to say hello, she will "yell" at us for disturbing her
