We just got back from 6 days at WDW and DH and I were both noticing that it seemed like EVERYONE had a tattoo. Is there a tattoo trend going on that we missed? We even noticed that there were as many women with tattoos as men. And the women put their tattoos in places that my DH shouldn't be looking!!!! Tattoo spotting became quite an amusement for us. We're both kinda naive and tattoos are just not a southhhhhern thing, (I tried to type in that southern drawl) I'm not against tattoos, I just think it would really hurt to have them done and I'm truly afraid of what it would look like on me in 30 years, would it become so misshapen and distorted that it looked like a nasty bruise after my you know what goes south and my you know what else gets all dimply and saggy. We saw tatttoos on young people, old people, tan people, really pale people, some tattoos completely covering arms & legs, both men & women. Some tattoos were really dainty and sweet, others were scary. Is this something new, or are we noticing more now because it's OK to not wear much clothing out in public and what's underneath is revealed? If your college age daughter or son came home with a tattoo, what would you say or do? Just curious.

No tattoos, no desire to have one, ever. I also wonder what all those tattoos will look like 50 years down the line. ;)

To each their own, though, if my DD chose to get one when she was of age I would discourage her but it's ultimately her choice.

And I would not trade it for anything. But the other two, one on my right ankle and one just above my left breast, I could do without and would definately get removed givne the chance!
Just my $.02

All I know is, my parents said that the day I get a tattoo is the day I move out!!

They are becoming much more mainstream. I have one, it did not hurt. I got it 3 years ago for mother's day. Oh, I am 50. DH has maybe 15, and DS (26) has his right arm sleeved, half of his left arm, and many others. I think you see more of them when it's hot because people wear less or skimpier clothing. As far as what happens when you get older, mine hasn't changed, DH has one that is 26 years old, it never changed. Ink technology has improved a lot, colors are brighter, they stay true, less fading.

If I had a college aged child who came home with one, oh well. I think in the whole scope of life, a tattoo is hardly worth a family dispute. But that is just me, a lot of other parents would be very upset. Families have unique values and what doesn't bother me may bother others, and that's OK.

BTW, tattoos are a southern thing, there are excellent artists in Georgia, Florida, everywhere.

Did you see the temporary Tattoos that you can get in DTD and other places? My nephew (8) got an airbrushed one at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg in May, that was a new type of tempy for me.

I have a fairy on a water lily on my left ankle.... it defintely has major signifigance for me... and I love it... wouldnt change it for the world.

I have a tribal pattern tattoo on my lower back, got it for my 22 birthday as a gift to myself!

Is this something new, or are we noticing more now because it's OK to not wear much clothing out in public and what's underneath is revealed?

You're probably noticing more now because it's hot in Florida (WDW) and most people do dress skimmpy to theme parks.
For instance, my fiance' has tattoos on his upper arms, so the only way to see them is when he's wearing muscle shirts. He only wears muscle shirts in WDW, back at home he's a t-shirt guy. (Florida is very hot to us, we're not use to the humidity being from Colorado Springs!)

on my right leg just above the ankle it is a rose, a heart and a banner with my husbands name I got it 2 years into our marriage,, later on Im going to put flower the skunk sitting on the rose, and he will be holding a rose,

my husband has like 17. and there is a couple he wish he never got on is on his forearm and it is a skull really badly done ( he got when he was 17) and then of the zig zag man with some leaves around it (he was a very bad boy when he was younger) a year ago we got pulled over and the cop pulled him over for going 5 miles over the cop saw that tattoo and wanted to search the car. There is one on his back of a female but during the tattoo he started to bleed a lot and the artist ruined the girls feet, so my husband is going to put some type of show on her,

His next ones are pictures of his three kids.

He cannot get anything on his chest. if he does he better figure out how to get rid off it....

Don't like to see women with big tattoos on their arms, legs or shoulders. That being said I do have tattoos, chinese symbol for sincereity and a tinkerbelle on my left side, two dolphins and chinese symbol for free spirit on my right side, celtic symbol on my lower back and a design I drew myself round my belly button.

I got all of them done in a three month period last year and really like them. People who see them do by invitation only and I like it that way.

Although I was 30 when I got them done, I couldn't pluck up the courage to tell my mom about it for over 6 months, she doesn't like me having tattoos and to this day asks me why I defaced my body by getting them.

Nope I don't have a single tattoo and I hope Ashli never gets one either. Thankfully she doesn't appear to like them any more than I do.

I have a small heart with a yellow rose wrapped around it and DH's name inside. Its on my shoulder blade. We got matching tattoos more than 12 years ago while he was stationed in Texas. My parents went crazy when they finally saw it...and I was married! It didn't really hurt...much. I don't think I'll ever get another one, although DH has gotten one and would like one more. I can't wait till I'm a Grandma and I can ask the grandkids if they want to see Grammie's tattoo.

I have a Tiger on my right arm. He has pretty green eyes;) I got it after my father passed away LOL! He would have went nuts, even though I was in my 20's. I don't regret it at all, it's been about 10 years and it still looks great. It gets a little darker in the summer because of the tan.

Gotta say this is the reason why I never got one! And at almost 40-something, I gotta say it was probably a good idea. :)

We noticed all the tattoos too - so many young women with tattoos on their lower backs. I saw some really cool ones, and some really bad ones. I think I would probably search high and low if I ever were to get one for the perfect tattoo artist - some that we saw were very intricate and detailed, some very talented tattoo artists out there! Unfortunately, there are some that aren't so talented, and we saw those too.

I'm 26 and have 3.... shamrock on my right inner ankle, tribal on my lower back and the chinese symbol for love on the back of my neck. I figure that I if I don't like them 10 or 20 years down the line, I will get them removed. Hopefully by that time, the removal process will be less painful and less money.... if not, oh well, I guess that will be my punishment :p

I don't have any, but I've thought about it. I'm afraid I'd be allergic to it.
I like the temporary ones when I feel like decoration. :teeth:

My sister has Thumper on her ankle.

Both DH and I have 2 tattoos.

DH designed both of his and one of mine.

DH has the Precious Moments boy and girl on his right arm/shoulder with the kids names under it. And on his left arm/shoulder he has a frog with a baby frog on its back.

I have a small butterfly on my right hip (got that when I was 18) and on my left ankle and wrapping around, DH designed a really pretty bow with the kids names on the ribbon part. (Did that for my 30th b-day)

I forgot to mention DH. He has 3 on his arms and will be getting his fourth before our next Disney trip. He is getting Grumpy on his arm!!!! Everyone calls him the Grump because he looks miserable all the time.

I don't have a tattoo. I can't handle that kind of pain. If I ever get one, it would be in a location no one could see anyway.:teeth:

no tattoos, but I do have my naval pierced which is something I did when I was 28 (and before both pregnanies).

My sister has 3 or 4 tattoos.

I don't. I think they are tacky on women. JMHO. On men - I think that they can be kind of sexy - if they are not all over the place. I think one on the upper arm/shoulder, then maybe one on the back. But, I think sleeves and multiple tatoos - especially on the neck or legs - are ugly as sin. Reminds me of driving through a trailer park. Sorry.
