Do you have a silly irrational fear??

I have two. The first is centipedes (creepy little things make me shudder). The second one, the one that makes my sisters laugh and make fun of me, is airplanes falling out of the sky and landing on my house. Its never happened to me or anyone I know or even anywhere near where I live, but there you go. Guess that's why it's an irrational fear, huh?

The dark. I can't stand going outside if it's dark and there are no lights on. I won't even go to the mailbox or put the trash at the curb. Husband has to do it.
Also when I lived with my parents I had a fear that someone was going to hide under the porch and pull at my ankles as I went down the stairs. Still creeps me out.

Add me to the list of high fright! I don't even like the balcony in my sisters house. It's only a 2 story but opens up all along the family room. I have to walk close to the wall and not look over at the opening. Kids love to see me go crazy by walking over and putting a hand over the rail. They are so evil!!! Needless to say when someone comes to town and wants to go up in the arch I just drive them downtown and wave from the bottom!:wave2: Crazy thing is that I like roller coasters, more so at night or in the dark because I can't see how high I am.:teeth:

Being sick, spiders and heights with spiders being the worst!

i didn't use to deal with this but since an accident in october i have a very bad fear of making left hand turns while driving...i have already started planning routes that involve the least amount of left turns possible for when i get another car (mine was totaled in the accident)...when riding in a car i often feel like my heart will beat itself out of my chest whenever we make a left...even if the next car is a mile away...i am also very afraid of people speeding...which means i am petrified of highways in this area...

I have a few:
heights
elevators
and being poked in the neck...LOL...my boyfriend pokes me in the neck to get me angry-I don't know why...I just have this crazy thing with my neck

I have a fear of snakes and anything flying towards my face......comes from being hit in the face by a golf ball.....but I can't stand to have anything come towards my face.......flashback city

Ski lifts, like it says in my tag :earseek: I never had a bad experience with one, I just don't trust them. They move so slowly that I have a lot of time to think up catastrophic "what if" scenarios in my head.

OK here goes. I have a couple of irrational fears and a few things I really hate but am not really scared of,
1) I am really scared of lightening - quite intresting on our trip to WDW in August!! One night there was a big storm and we had to walk back from MGM to the BCV where we were staying. My DH had hold of one hand and my friend had hold of the other whilst I shook and wept the whole way back!!!!
2) I am petrified of injections. I am a teacher and my class had to have their meninginas (sp!) jabs so I had to go in with some of them. I felt sick even though I knew I wasn't having one done. I was trying to calm the kids but was inwardly more nervous than some of them. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!!
3) The one thing I hate the most (but am not scared of) are balloons that have started to go down!! I can not even touch them. And as for asking me to burst a balloon, don't even go there!!
So OK I'm strange, but have probably given you all a laugh!!

I can't go to sleep at night if my children's ground floor bedroom windows are wide open. The Polly Klaas kidnapping really wigged me out and ever since, at night, they are only open to the locked position (about 5 inches). If it's too hot we have to use the air conditioner. I know its irrational, but there it is...

I've been a volunteer fireman for almost 40 years through the rank of Chief. I've gone into probably several hundred burning buildings without giving it a second thought.

My silly fear? Matches! I'll do almost anything to avoid having to light a match.

My one irrational fear is of frogs. It has something to do with my early childhood in Miami...we had a canal which ran behind our house, and frogs were everywhere. Once, my mom had left the sliding glass door cracked, and a frog got in. A big fat one. It decided to sit in the dog's water bowl. I also witnessed my father run one over with the lawn mower...not on purpose, mind you.

I don't know why I have reacted this way towards them, but they totally freak me out. It's something about them being slimy, and bumpy, and being able to go from your hand to your head at a moments notice. Icky.

Irrational, I am not sure.

I have a fear of being sick... ya know, hugging the bowl....
I get panic attacks if I feel like my stomach is funky in that way. I start to sweat and shake and my heart starts to race....

Other than that I don't think I have any wierd fears..... well maybe..

I can freak myself out if the windows at night don't have the shades drawn.... I swear there are things outside looking at me, even on the third floor.... I always have to shut the shades if I go in a room at nihgt, I usually keep them shut all day!

For most Catholics, the sacrament of Reconciliation is calming and cathartic. But for me, it's just fear! I have broken into tears before, during, and after going to Confession. I have been this way for the past 25 years or so, starting with my very first Confession and can count on one hand the times I didn't get totally freaked out. I can't explain it at all, but it's just terrifying to me.

Oooh, I have one nobody's mentioned yet, so I must be really weird... How about going to the bathroom in the dark? I just cannot do it. I HAVE to turn the light on and look in the toilet before I "go."

Hearing my story is NOT going to help you. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_7_204.gif' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_7_204.gif' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_7_204.gif' border=0></a>

You know those great big huge palmetto bugs? I was at my parents home going the bathroom in the middle of the night. I picked up a roll of toilet paper and this HUGE bug <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_7_204.gif' border=0></a> fell into my underwear that is down around my knees. Now my first reaction was to scream bloody murder but my poor mother was literally dying of cancer in the next room and I knew that I COULD NOT disturb her in the middle of the night. You should have seen me mouthing silent screams while trying to get my pj bottoms off!! Now can you imagine if it had been dark and I had not noticed that bug until I pulled my pants back up!!!! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_11_1.gif' border=0></a>

when I had first read the question I had 2 in mind this was not 1 of them, but I totally have this fear. I can not go to sleep with any windows open under any circumstances. I also can never sleep with my closet door open it must be closed completely (so the boogey man cant get out), My other fear isnt irrational, just how extreme it is. I am terrified that I am going to get bitten by a shark. Now for the irrational, I have this fear in any deep water not just the ocean, even a lake or river any place that the water is deep enough that I cant touch. i know you really have to be careful of those vicious lake sharks

I am absolutely terrified of snakes and anything that even resembles a snake.

My fear is very ironic. I'm am scared to death of high ferris wheels. I can ride any roller coaster or drop zone type ride with no problem. I can ride in prop planes and have no fear whatsoever. I know it is not a fear of heights exactly, so I have no clue why ferris wheels freak me out. I guess that's the silly irrational part. I am also afraid of the normal spiders, snakes, bugs, etc..

I am afraid of, well, the kids and I call them Hunchback Crickets...my husband calls them Stone Crickets....I dont know what they are really called. They don't look like the little crickets, they have big round bodies with long legs, kind of like a spider. Ugh! I hate them! They seem to jump at you when you see them. One had me cornered in the garage, and every time I took a step towards it, it jumped towards me! I don't like it when bugs dont act like they are scared of you! LOL!
I don't like spiders either especially the ones with big thick bodies!
