Do you have a SCRIP program at your child's school?

We offer a SCRIP fundraiser program at our school, in which gift cards are purchased in advance. The merchants pay a percentage back to the school, and our school splits it 50/50. The parents' half goes towards next year's tuition.

Anyway, we just added Disney SCRIP cards at a 7% return. The cards can be used for vacations, dining, souvenirs, and in the Disney store. By paying for my vacation with the cards (which I verified with my TA first) I am getting a $200.00 reduction off next year's tuition :thumbsup2

Does anyone else participate in this program?

Yes, our school does it. Now if I could only force myself into using it more often!

We do also, but it's used primarily for music/band students. If I buy a Disney 'scrip' for say $100, then we get back that 7%....$7.00. But, the school program keeps the first 1%, I get the rest, 6%, that goes into our family fund to pay for any music/band trips my dd may participate in before graduation...2012. Pretty good deal, but I have to remember to do it. We can even use it at our local grocery store. It's the exact same thing as getting a gift card.

Our school does it, but this year they stopped splitting the $$ with us, I don't typically participate.

Our school does it and we have to "earn" the school $150 per year as part of our contract (private school). They added the Disney cards last week and I order one for our trip in December!! Its too late to pay for the trip, but it will cover all those other expenses...aka shopping!!

Our school has this program but all of the funds stay at school for specific projects. Last year we paid for a new playground with equipment. It's a Catholic school and each month, each family can earn an out-of-uniform day if they purchase $200 in scrip. Not hard to do since every grocery store participates.

We just added Disney but I haven't checked into the cards yet to see exactly what I can use it for. Glad to see they can be used at WDW!

My son's school does it also, he just brought the new form home today and I was excited to see Disney on there!! :cool1: We get to keep all the money, it's put toward our son's tuition.

We have this program - don't know about Disney cards being added - but it is strictly voluntary. We get no tuition remission and there is no expectation that any family will buy any particular amount. Accordingly, the program makes only a modest amount of money. We've been told it's illegal to require that a family buy a certain amount. Not sure if someone is just "following the letter of the law" a little to closely or if we've gotten questionable legal advice.

We had it at our old school. It was a nice program. The school split the proceeds 60-40 with the 60 going toward your tuition and the 40 going into the general fund. I might have to mention this to our band directors for a fund raiser???

:thumbsup2 our school is a private Christian school and we don't get that much back .......1%-10% on what gift card you get....last year we got 16.00 off our payment. I will check and ask about the disney gift card we have some for airlines, just the ones we don't use.!

I love, love, LOVE SCRIP!!

We get 70% of the discount. Each year I end up saving several hundred dollars off tuition. If I would really use it for everything possible, I'm sure I'd pass $500. I'm just such an impulse buyer I don't always like to wait a week to order my gift cards before buying.

HUGE scrip lover here!! When our school first introduced it, the families got nothing out of it. The school kept all of the profit. There was no incentive for us to use it. So nobody did.

THEN.....They started giving us almost ALL the profit. The school keeps 1%, and we get the rest off our tuition. I typically get $1000.00 off my tuition every year. Yes, I said ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS a year! And that's mostly just gas and groceries with a few gift cards added in at Christmas.

This year, I finally got my act together and started placing orders every week. I started buying J.C. Penney because we're purchasing new blinds for the living room. I started stocking up on Lowe's because I want a new washer & dryer. So I thought I might as well "save" my $$ that way! I go to Burger King & Wendy's anyway, so I buy the script every week.

I can't wait to see how much $$ we'll save this year!! :cool1:

We were told that the cards do expire...is it OK to "stock up" on the cards? Do you use them in a reasonable amount of time?

Our school just added TDS to their SCRIP! I when I went to TDS, I asked them if we could use them to purchase park passes. The answer was yes!! Yippeeeeeee!!!!!!!

If you have Kohl's on your program you can use the gift cards through SCRIP only to pay your bill. If you want to buy stuff, use your card for the extra % off they are offering and then turn over your cards to pay on the spot you can. They will also hold a credit on your bill for 2 months if you want to apply a bunch of cards so you don't lose them. It is great!!!!

My nieces school does this. Rather than a Christmas club my mother now buys different cards thoughouth the year and then uses them rather than her credit cards or cash at Christmas time. She also gets the ones for the grocery stores. This way the school makes money from places she would just have paid cash.

Not all of the vendors have expiration dates. Some take off a percentage of the balance for non-use. You just have to be careful. But yes, I will use them before they expire. I won't be saving them for years or anything like that. Just maybe a couple of months.....no longer than a year.

I use most of mine within a reasonable amount of time. A couple of weeks to a couple of months.

Our school is just starting this program. I am going to purchase the Kohl's cards and pizza hut ones b/c we use them the most.

After that I'll just have to see what other retailers we use frequently that is offered.

Does anyone know if we can use it to pay for the dining plan???? We're getting ready to leave soon and if so I will purchase enough to cover our dining plan ::yes::

My daughter is in a CHildrens Chorus and they sell scrips. I think I need to check and see if Disney is now on the list!!
