really my photos are all over the place, saturated, muted ,landscape flowers, you name it i take it...but i think i am starting to lean more toward the more abstract, not totally abstract but i like it more softened, kind of dreamy and more "part of the whole" than the "whole". i guess if it were painting i'd think more impressionism than realism. and i really like the subject of either nature or old buildings/farms etc. maybe partially cause that is what is available where i live but also because i think it's kind of sad how that agricultural lifestyle is slipping away
so am i the only kook who thinks about this kind of stuff?

I have been shooting anything and everything since getting my first dslr in September (see pain pills, dogs, children, buildings, christmas ornaments, etc. etc. etc.). That being said, in everyday life I think I enjoy shooting candids of things that are live the most (pets and people) and also like shooting stuff (stuff being fence posts, bricks on the street, etc.)

Kind of broad, but so far I have found myself enjoying landscape, buildings, plants and posed portraits least.

I think that when I go on vacation, this will probably change. If we go to WDW I'll enjoy shooting buildings and if we go to the Grand Canyon I'll probably enjoy landscapes. KWIM?

I'm sure after a few more months or years of shooting, I may be able to narrow my favorite down to one.

No style yet. But I will say that Photography has caused me to look at everything just a little bit differently. I slow down and really look and appreciate so much more.

I've adopted a style in which I keep my subject slightly out of focus, I tilt the horizon just a bit, and I compose in a way that professionals would find unconventional. Some call it incompetence, but it's really just my personal style.

Most of my favorite photos have water in them, and most of those have water in motion (or water in a long exposure).

No real style here either. I will shoot anything that catches my eye. I do agree with Quicklabs though, photography has made me slow down and really see things differently. I notice things more and catch myself saying " that would make a nice pic" Just wish I had my camera with me all the time when these situations arise

I'm going the "Jack of all trades, master of none" style. :)

I've been going through different subjects over the years. I used to do mostly automotive photography and very rarely any humans. Now I do lots of shots of my son and have been trying to do a few more candid people shots. I have not tried to do any "posed" portrait photography yet, but who knows; maybe some day.

These are the advantages of doing photography for fun instead of a job. :thumbsup2

I don't think I have a certain style - but I have noticed lately that I like to use dark backgrounds or very low key looks more and more.

When I compose a shot I try to to use a short focal plane (e.g. using f 2.8 to create more of "bokeh" effect or a "fuzzy look" to things that are not in the focal plane. Note: this can be really tough for action shots... because I lose a lot of images due to them being blurry or the parts I want in focus are no where close to being in focus).

I also attempt to do this with lower light opportunities and really wide angle lens or telephoto lens -- trying to get away from what typical point and shoots cameras offer photographers. If I use artifical light, I try to get it off the camera body using pocket wizards.

Lastly, I only show people the good shots... not the hundreds of "so-so" shots on my computer. Ha!... they think I'm good! :rotfl2:

hey if throwing a camera in the air can be considered art , who am i to call it otherwise:lmao:

While we are on this subject, here are two books that have sections on finding and refining your personal style, as well as assembling a cohesive portfolio:

http://www.rockynook.com/books/66.html

http://www.rockynook.com/books/43.html

I have both of these books and highly recommend them but have yet to assemble anything resembling a portfolio... ;)
i love Briot's essays on luminous landscape( like i've said a million times) so i'd probably love this book as well.
