Do you have a Nest Egg or do you spend money as quick as you make it?

Both. Some months are better than others. But I have a certain amount taken out each month for savings and life insurance. I don't touch it. The rest seems to go too quickly some weeks.

We put money towards savings and investments every pay.

Ever since I was a teen my parents MADE me have a nest egg. When I became an adult and got my 1st real job I started right off with a 401K at the max amount each week.

After I left that job I rolled it over and have added the max amout each year. It has now been 16 years. Each year I go to the max.

I also have an IRA for my Dh and we put the max in for him also. Plus he puts the max in with his 401K.

There are times I wish I did not do this because it leaves us broke. But I have to think that after we get paid the money really is not ours after you figure in the mortgage, ligh bill phone cable ect.

So we Pay our selved 1st.

We also have a saving account we add to each month and only touch in emergencies.

We invest in stocks, antiques and collectibles, etc. The excess cash thrown off by some of our investments can pay for the little pleasures and luxuries of life.

We're building our nest egg.

We have a nice little nest compared to our friends who are our age. We have made a few investments that have done very well for us and we ALWAYS pay ourselves first w/contributions to all sorts of saving tools. We want to retire young and well.;) We do not, however, live so frugally that we do not enjoy what we have. My DH and I both work hard and like to be able to spend it now and then. We spend for quality cars, houses, appliances (quality not luxury) and things that are more investment type purchases. We could care less about designer clothes, jewelry, etc.

Well, I will either be dining on cat food as a senior citizen or working until I die. I have great intentions to save money but it seems that every time I accumulate a decent size savings, I find something to spend it on. The one thing that I take comfort in is that we have good life insurance policies if anything were to happen to us. We also have a lot of equity in our house.

I admire those of you who can save.

We have savings directly taken out of our paycheck for retirement, plus the kids college. DH gets a disability check which goes into the kids college account.

We set up a "special savings" account, which is where all the leftovers from our pay checks go. This account is our fluid nest egg. Last fall, 1) our house was hit by lightning, 2) we had just decided to re-do all the flooring in the house, and 3) we had a hurricane strike. That nest egg paid for all the deductibles and additional out of pocket costs from the storm damage, as well as the flooring. If we hadn't had that available, we would have been in trouble. I think we spent nearly $15,000 in about 4 weeks! Some of it we got back from insurance, but that definitely brought home to me the need to keep some cash available.

Not to brag, but we have a lot of money saved. We have two houses, good 401K's and my son has a good size bank account for being 3. My husband is a saver, and we don't live fancy, drive fancy cars or anything like that. We have had quite a bit of luck in the real estate market though, so luck definitely helps when it comes to investing.

We try to keep it simple. 10% to our nest egg, 10% to our church and causes we care about and 80% on our lifestyle. Higher income years allow more options, but we maintain this balance.

Well, I've become a saver later in life. I've always been one but I was frustrated by my ex--he was definitely a spender. He declared bankruptcy during our divorce, cleaned out our accounts, and had forged my signature on loan documents so my pay was being garnished. I swore I would never have such a thing happen to me again.

My present DH is a saver as well. We live on his salary (quite comfortably) and my entire paycheck goes into a savings account and he contributes quite a bit to his retirement account. I just told him the other day that I love being able to pay bills without figuring out who I can put off for another month. I just write the checks and don't have to worry about it. We live well within our means and can still afford vacations, new furniture, etc. Everything is paid for in cash--if we can't pay cash, we don't need it.

You have no idea how HAPPY :Pinkbounc this makes me!

We save money each month for future purchases/vacations, emergencies, retirement, DD's education etc. We have quite a bit saved.

I spend what I need to get by which is almost all of what I make.

What little I have left over goes into a "fun" account because I'd honestly rather life my life enjoying life than saving up for "what ifs"

I do have a pretty nice 401K set up though through work.
