DH bought one yesterday, and I had wanted a Dyson instead.....I was here when he bought it, and I didn't argue with him, it seemed like a really good sweeper, but....

Anyone have one? Are they all they're cracked up to be? We have until Monday to change our minds.

My sister used to work for Kirby, about a millon years ago ;) . My mother had one and about the only things I remember are it was very heavy and hard to change to use the attachments. They used to be very expensive so don't know how the price compares with the Dyson. Do you have pets? I just got "The Boss" by Eureka, it was the highest rated low price model in consumer reports and it does the job and I only paid $159. I wanted an Orek because they are lighter but it wasn't rated as high, can't remember if they rated a Kirby or not. I'll try and find the magazine and and let you know. :flower:

Yes I have one. I have had it for 14yrs now and never any problems, if and when it no longer works we will be buying another. :)

But the world does not live around consumer reports alone, do they? I sure hope not. I used to be in retail and I sold tons of items that were better than the one that CR liked.

You want the real deal? Go to www.epinions.com

Real people, real experiences, based on real life usage.

And while they may not be perfect, I would trust the input of folks who use a product day in and day out before I would trust CR.

Just my .02

EDIT: And the Kirby may be awesome. I have no idea. I've just seen so many better options that what CR recommended that I almost laugh when I hear people say they use CR. If they worked in the type of store that I did, they probably would not either.

Consumer reports is just a guide use it or not. :confused3 I just couldn't see spending twice the money for one that wasn't twice as good. I found the magazine and they don't have the Kirby listed. Maybe you can go try the Dyson and see how they compare.

Mom bought one yrs ago. It did only the floors because it was too hard to change it around to use the hose.
Yrs later my aunt bought one, had it a couple of months and gave it to me, she hated it. At the time all I had was a 1/2 broken upright with no attachments. The Kirby head was too wide to fit around and under things so I usually had the hose attached. That did not work well because it was too top heavy and kept falling over. I gave it to my mom when her kirby died. I then bought a filter queen. Love the power and ease of cleaning wiht it, but hate emptying it. Replacement parts and filters are very expensive. As soon as the power hose goes (it is dying now) I'll just buy a new vaccuum. The hose is over $100. I'm looking at the Dyson canister now. I just don't care for uprights.
