I disagree with your defininitions of the two words.
A job is doing specific work or tasks, for which you are paid.
A career is a chosen profession, made up of the progressive "jobs" you have within that profession. A career is "bigger" than a job in scope, but having one doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have work/life balance, as your definition would seem to suggest.
Therefore, I have both a job (current role) and a career (theme, pattern, future).
