We have a fireplace that we used quite often in the winter......only thing is, it was quite dirty, with pieces of bark, ashes, and DH always had a smoke problem when he started it
. We inserted a Harmon pellet stove in the fireplace enclosure last Feb, and we love it......no ashes to clean (hardly,,,like emptying an ashtray) no burning down the house smell, and no smoke, soot. Very clean, and warm like you wouldn't believe. The fireplace just wasn't warm, since the heat went up the chimney mostly, instead of in the room. You can even see the pellets burning in the front, even though I do miss the roaring fire in the fireplace.
