Do you have a cleaning schedule?

Yes. Cleaning commences 15 minutes before company is due to arrive. Thus, cleaning schedule = (company - 15).
Our place is small, so this isn't usually an issue. It also helps that we have hardwood (never looks too dirty after a good swiffing), stainless steel appliances (never look too bad), very dynamic granite countertops (I swear I could spill anything on these countertops and it would blend right in), and I dump a bottle of bleach into the toilet once a week and let it percolate. Make the bed, and it's hello, company. :)

That's my schedule too - especially if I have a meeting at my house. I've done my turn for 3 clubs that I am in so now I have to figure out a reason to clean for the next six months.

I'm a place for everything and everything in it's place kind of person, but even though this house is 2 times as big as my old condo I have still not managed to get organized yet - so I just move stuff from room to room.

I remember those days..... ;) :p

I just wanted to thank whoever recommended flylady. I checked it out yesterday and I am so motivated! I'm hopeful it will get me into some better habits, especially since it is an internet-centered program (and I obviously waste way too much time on here).

I guess we'll see over the next few weeks if I can stick with it. But at least I feel like I have a plan!

Oh - and I thought the CHAOS acronym was a riot. For those who don't know, they say it stands for "Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome". :rotfl:

Well, now that I have it more together I can actually follow flylady (I modify it a bit).
My house had gotten so bad because I had temped for a bit and then messed up my back so things fell apart.
I finally pulled it together and I spent one a day a week in each room. I "picked" up the others but instead of going back and forth (and thus getting nothing acomplished) I concentrated on that one room. I decluttered and pretty much deep cleaned.
Now that all the rooms are done it is so easy to stay on top of it!
I can't stand doing something knowing that the house is a mess. Now I can get it done in less than an hour and I'm freed up all day! What a feeling! LOL

I'm the type that when I want something done I want it done now so doing it slowly was painful for me ;) but boy has it paid off!

Give it a try........

I do...its the only way I get anything done.

monday: dust

tuesday: vaccum

wednesday: clean bathrooms

thursday: clean kitchen

friday: mop floors

This is the way I used to do it - one thing every day to accomplish - then the second baby arrived, so now things get done as needed. I'm a Stay at home mom not a stay at home housekeeper. ;) Not having a schedule is okay - everything still gets done eventually.

I still miss the days when something actually got accomplished each day, but I guess that will hve to wait until the kids are a little older.

I don't always follow the routine, but I find her motivating and forgiving. Sometimes the only thing clean is my kitchen sink. Other times she provides me a much needed schedule.

My 7 yo dd knows when I come at her with a plastic bag, she rolls her eyes and says, "You want me to toss 27 things right?"

There is just DH and I at home and we both work full time. We have wooden floors which I sweep every 2 days. The kitchen surfaces and hob get cleaned every day when the washing up is done. I dust quickly every 2 days. The whole house (including doors, oven etc) gets cleaned on a Saturday morning along with the washing. DH and I take it in turns. One week I do upstairs (bedroom, 2 studies and bathroom, the landing and the stairs carpet - this includes doing the washing) and he does downstairs (enterance hall, bathroom, lounge, dining room, kitchen and garden/sun room) then next week we swap. I have dust allergies so I try to keep the house as clean as possible.

Today is make meal plan/make grocery list day. I am not doing so well.
