DH and I *should* be closing on our new house any day now :goodvibes The house has a bay window in the living room (it's a bi-level) and I'm not really sure what to do with it. I would love to just leave it open but DH likes curtain/drapes/blinds on every window. The previous owners had a curtain of some sort across the entire window, about 1/3 from the top of the window :confused3

Anyone have any pics of your bay window you would like to share? Any ideas?

Congrats on the new house! I don't have a bay window but my neighbor does. She uses it mainly for plants and her cat sleeps in there. She's always dusting the shelf. :headache:

My last house had a bay window and it was the bane of my existance!! I never quite knew what to do with it.

A friend of mine just had his "covered" with Plantation shutters. It looks fabulous and you can open them and get all light when you want to.

I got Roman shades made for my bay window. Mainly just for decoration though because I never put them down, though they can be.

I live in a bi-level, with a bay window in the living room. At first, like you I thought wow, what great light we should not put up any drapes/curtains. Then, I realized many of our neighbors enjoy walking their dogs, taking a stroll, jogging and all of them could see directly into our house. I myself took the dog out for a walk on day and realized I could see exactly what TV show my DH was watching as I walked up the street. So, nonetheless I now have sheers w/ drapes over top them. This way I can open the drapes to reveal the sheers - I still get great light, but a bit of privacy.

I have a three bay windows. My favorite covering is plantation shutters. They are quick and easy to open and close and look formal enough that you don't need to add a drape. I have wood blinds and a drape that doesn't close on the other two bay windows. It just gets to be a pain twisting the blinds closed on all of the windows in the bay.

We had a beautiful bay window at our previous house. The prior owners had put in custom sheers and then had heavy drapes over the window. We took down the curtains but left the sheers (they were fitted to the window and flush with it). I honestly didn't mind leaving the window uncovered....I like looking out and don't mind people looking in. The sheers worked well though because we still got lots of light and could see out but you couldn't see in the house easily.

The people who bought that house from us took down the sheers and have heavy drapes over the window again. I can't even imagine how dark that room must get for them now.

We have a bay window in our kitchen. I like it :goodvibes

We don't have to worry about anyone seeing in, though, as there's nothing but woods behind our house. :goodvibes

Well, it's pretty dark outside in that pic.

The only one I can find in the daytime is kind of messy - the girls making Christmas cookies - lol!

Anyway, the curtains are just for decoration and don't actually cover the window.

We have curtains, but also have the windows tinted so that people can't see in when the curtains are open. That only works during the day, of course, but at night I close the curtains because I just like my privacy.

My bay window is not rounded...it's 3 separate windows so that it looks like this /--\ sortof, if you were to look at it from the top, looking down.

I have mini blinds in each of the 3 separate window spaces...1 small blind in each of the side windows and one larger blind in the larger center window. The blinds fit inside the window frame. I then have a valance across the top of the whole length of the window.

I like the blinds because I can control the amount of light I let in, the amount of privacy I want etc. I like the valance because it adds some color.

I actually have 3 bay windows in myhouse and all are "dressed" the same way.

We installed a bay window in our first house, and a previous owner of our current home did the same. So the bay window is the three angled windows and have a "seat" underneath rather than it being open all the way down to the flooring or all the way up to the ceiling.

In our first house, we just installed nice wood and stained it on the seat. We put plants in, and yes, the cat loved to sleep in there among the greenery. :)

I think I had just regular drapes installed (above the bay window, down to the floor.)

Our current house has carpeting installed in the bay window, so I really haven't done anything with it. And just as well, since the cat and the kids love to play in there! :rotfl:

I have floor-length sheers and dark drapes installed over the window. The only frustration I have is that the sheers get batted around and crumpled up by all the activity of the cat and kids. In fact, my youngest loves to roll himself up in one of the sheers...

I might like the idea of the plantation shutters but I'm not sure how they would go with the rest of the house, its a little modern. Like PP, the only thing outside my bay window will be the woods... okay one house way out in the distance that you can see when there are no leaves on the trees...

DH thinks that everyone is going to see in the house, I said who  the bears climbing the trees outside :rotfl:

He still thinks we should cover the window for privacy, I don't honestly know what we are going to be doing in there that needs to be so private  but I will give in and cover them with something. DH grew up in what I call 'the city' and he comes from a long line of 'window coverers'. I grew up in the woods with naked windows

I have 2 bay windows in the front of the house. I have verticle blinds for privacy, otherwise you can see everything goin' on in the house. I have sheer curtains...they just hide the blinds while they are closed....they do not even cover the windows.
