YES I have a basement and I never go down there it looks like the one from Silence of the Lambs.

I can't imagine not having a basement. The house I grew up in had one and mine now does too. Right now we're kind of using it for storage, but in the next couple of years I'm hoping to redo the whole thing and make it a family room and an office down there. I have a 1/2 bath and a laundry room there too, want to make the 1/2 bath a full bath too.

Another topic, but I've never lived in a house that has had an attic.

I have a good old SoCal slab. I'm not sure if basements are allowed due to vulnerability to quakes. I wouldn't mind having one, though, the ones I've seen were cool places to watch TV, work on hobbies, store your beer can collection etc. :thumbsup2

I live in a bi-level (raised ranch) so I do not have a basement. The bottom floor is living space. Its a great use of all space in a home, but we don't have much storage space. We have an attic, a large 2 car garage and a large shed. I guess it keeps us from having too much stuff :thumbsup2

Full basement. It holds ALOT of junk! I wouldn't be able to live with out one! Or an attic!

I don't know if anyone in Florida has one. At least no one that lives near the beach.

crawl space beneath our building (condo) - full-size storage area on one end for all our units

I wouldn't buy a home without a basement (in a region where they are the norm, at least). Ours is finished and also has a storage room that is unfinished.

Basement here. And I agree with HelenePA, it holds a lot of junk. I'm in the process of cleaning out my basement. Yeah! Not! Actually, it's not that bad. I don't mind cleaning it. This is finally giving us a chance to get rid of a lot of stuff.

We just moved from California to Kansas in May. My childhood home had a basement, but it was really creepy so we never went down there. The home that my husband and I bought didn't even have a crawl space.

Now that we are in Kansas, we have a really nice basement. I love it! The previous owners turned it into a theater room. They had a built-in HD large screen t.v. put in there. When they moved, they couldn't get the t.v. out and left it behind, along with the sound system!:lovestruc

By the way, we've had to go to that basement 3 times due to tornado warnings.!:scared1: That is new to us Californians!

Sweet! That was real nice of them. How big is the tv? If you don't mind me asking?

At least the gound doesn't move. :thumbsup2 ;)

Nope. We live in a flood danger't area.
When the river starts flooding and the groundwater rises a basement works like a balloon and lifts up the house.

voted "yes, basement".

we also have what is considered crawl space, I guess. The larger section is full, but two smaller sections (under living room and under sunroom) is a hip wall. We use that for storage.

Have always had basements.

:)

We bought our first house this summer, and we are thrilled that it has a basement. That was actually a big selling point with us. Half of it is finished, and we use that room for a movie room and computer room. The other half is unfinished, and we use it for storage (though DH wants to eventually put a ping pong table in there).

The house I grew up in had a basement. Even though my parents never finished it, it was a great space. They used part of it for storage and we used the other part as a playroom where we could do "outside" things indoors when the weather was bad. We had swings on the rafters, rode bikes and roller skated down there:love: - things we couldn't do in the family room.

When DH and I bought our first house, it didn't have a basement and I was lost. There was little other storage in the house to boot, and so our garage became an attached basement. Our washer and dryer were even out there.

Our new house has a big basement AND a crawl space. We have a 2300 sq.ft. ranch and the basement is about 3/4 that, with the rest being crawl space. We haven't been able to figure out why there are both, but if we ever decide to finish the basement, we'll still have plenty of storage space.

Yes, we have a 950 sq. ft. basement. It came unfinished and we are in the process of finishing it, but it was already wired and had lights and plugs, so we have used it anyway with exposed rafters and a concrete floor.

DH is making a full on media room, it is going to be great.
