There isn't a day goes by that I don't receive at least a half dozen emails telling me we've won something. For instance, I just got one saying we'd won round trip airlines tickets to any city in the US. I should just click on the link.

I get them for everything from J.C. Pennys to big screen tvs. I never click on anything. I just delete them. Most of them have an unsubscribe thing, but I'm afraid to click on it.

Does this happen to anyone else?

My son gets tons of these on his hotmail address.

He just hits the delete button.

Just delete - if you click on unsubscribe, that will let the spammers know they found an active email address and you'll get even more.

If you open them, there is usually a hidden hyperlink just one pixel big that lets them know they hit a valid address and that you opened it. You will get even more spam than you used to. I have an old address that still gets anywhere between 100-150 a day.

It's funny. I have 2 e-mail addresses...one that gets all of those kinds of e-mails and the other that gets none. I can't figure it out. I just delete them all.

I get the viagra one, or how to make sexx (as they spell it last longer) or how to make my booobs (as they spell it) bigger. I don't need viagra, thank you very much, sex lasts long enough, and the other would just sag that much more, unless they can guarantee perkiness! :teeth: So winning something actually sounds like an improvement! :rotfl: Most everything of mine goes into a spam folder, but I do have to look through it since non-spam ends up in there, too.

I had to get a new email addresse, because I got like 20 a day! I would strongly advise not to open them, because they may cause viruses.

Is it on an e-mail related to your former job? You might want to consider getting a new e-mail address from gmail or the like.

That is another thing, you don't know which e-mail is fraud and contains some awful virus. It's better, overall, just not to open them. As said before, just delete them when you get them.

I don't get the ones about winning stuff, but I get the foreign-sounding drug and enhancement ones all the time .

I thought you couldn't get a virus or anything unless you opened an attachent . Any techie geeks here who can clarify this??? What exactly can happen if you accidentally open these, or if your preview pane opens it?

I'm not a techie geek (heh far from it) but I got a virus soon after I looked through my e-mails and I didn't open any attachments...though, maybe it wasn't even from the e-mail. I'm not sure but because I don't know for certain, I'd always be more safe than sorry.

You are not going to get a virus be viewing an e-mail, it's opening an infected attachment. I virus scan all attachments, even when I get them from someone I know. And I never even open an attachment if I don't know the source.

Where are the techie geeks??? :rotfl:

Okay, that's valid information now leading me to wonder how I got 6-7 viruses and 20 trojans on my now "dead" computer!! lol. I was hoping it was just opening e-mails because then I'd know how it happened...darn now I'm in the fog again!! Oh bother...I think I NEED to become some techie geek now!! It's important for survival, heh.

Maybe there's a newer breed of viruses that can get through without attachments. They get more and more clever, don't they? We're still waiting for techie geek to show up on this thread. I'll ask my DH when he gets home--he's not techie, but he knows quite a bit about that sort of thing.

Unfortunately...I just wish I could keep up! :surfweb:

Wow! I never get that kind. I would be jealous, but the last thing I need is something reminding me about sex! I'll stick with the contest type! :rotfl2:

I used to get those all the time on my old email address. They were so annoying and it took me so long to sort through my "good" emails and the spam, that I finally got a new email address... I've not had one spam email since. :woohoo:

If I'm consistent about clicking them and deleting them as spam, it seems to limit the junk e-mails.
