Do you give your kids and allowance?

My 11 year old gets $11/month and my 7 year old gets $7/month. I used to only give them $1/week and upped it to this amount. I probably won't give my youngest who is 4 anything till he is 5 or 6.

I don't really know if the allowance is tied to thier chores or not but they are required to help clean up after supper every night and usually extra things I find for them to do on the weekend. It's definitely not tied to keeping their rooms clean as both their rooms are junkholes most of the time.

I did decide anything that oldest DS wants to be in he is required to contribute 10%. I get tired of him wanting to sign up for a sport or whatever then not wanting to follow thru with it like he should and go to all the practices and stuff. So if it cost $40 to sign up for baseball, he will kick in $4.

My 14yo DD gets $20/week. She has a chore list with 2 chores a day.

Take out trash - Sunday, Thursday
Recycling - Monday, Wednesday - out to curb on every other Monday night
Clean bedroom/bathroom - weekend
Sweep kitchen - Tuesday
Dishes - Tuesday and Saturday
Clean litter box - every other day
Vaccuum Basement - every other day

Her chores usually take her 10-15 minutes, at most, per day (except for her bedroom, that usually takes hours! lol)

my boys are 7 and 9. My 9yr old just started getting allowance - he gets $3.00 per week and needs to walk the dog when asked..he usually winds up getting 5.00 per week for doing x-tra chores. He is a good saver - when he saves up a bunch of money in his wallet - we'll go to the bank and make a deposit! He does not use much - maybe if we go on vacation or somewhre special he'll take some.

my 7yr old does not get an allowance - though he should -he does not care about money much - if he does get for b-day etc and that goes in the bank but when he gets some extra for doing an extra around th house but he just wants to throw that into our family vacation fund. i tell him put it away u might want something that we don't want to buy you - he does not care - perhaps he's too young..

We give our kids a weekly allowance. Our 16yo gets $16/week and our 12yo gets $12/week. It goes up on their birthday. Our kids are savers and do not spend hardly any money. They seem to have more fun counting their money and watching it grow every week!
