do you give a gift to your kids' school bus driver?

I give to the bus drivers($20 each- i have 2 kids on different buses), janitors(there are 6 in each school so I call them & let them know I will order lunch & to pick a day), school nurse & librarian(the both get $10 to the local pizza place) @ Thanksgiviing time- I don't like getting slammed financiall in December so I break it up & the kids write a card that sas I am thankful that you get me to & from school safely ever day etc. My DS is a teacher & she gets all sorts of crap that gets chucked or given away so I give giftcards & money.

For my sons route, he has to take a shuttle AND the bus so we make sure to do both drivers. Also, sometimes there are "bus helpers" that assist the kids getting on and off so we do them, too. Usually a small bottle of lotion or soap and a home-made card from the kids is a nice touch. We also do Valentine's and for the last day of school, too. If I'm feeling REALLY Martha-y, I even do Blessing Mix for Thankgiving and Boo-Bags for Halloween. I think that ANY thing you do would be nice. Like they say- it's the thought that counts!

Yes, we do Janitors and lunch ladies, too! My son feels like Santa! Our Janitor likes the Seahawks so we'll give something for a fan and our lunch ladies get coffee gift cards. Also, the ladies that work at the front desk have to be chipper ALL the time so to keep their spirits up, everytime I have to pop in, I bring a little something for them to share. This does NOT have to cost a fortune! Usually when I am out shopping, I pick up small things that are $1-$3 and I have a special drawer where I hold all of my gifts. It doesn't take much for people to feel appreciated.

We (the kids and I) made these one year for the lunch ladies in our building.

They are super cute, easy and inexpensive. The lunch ladies got quite a kick out of them! :)

For our bus drivers, my girls usually give a nice candle, gift card, or something I know the driver will enjoy. Since I work for the school district I sometimes have the opportunity to get the inside scoop on what the driver that particular year enjoys doing in their off time. I generally spend around $20 for the driver. My girls ride the same bus so $10 each.

Oh my GOSH!! That is the CUTEST idea EVER!!! I love that!!

I might do that for some of the office and other staff FROM our Kitchen!!

Last year after our Thanksgiving meal one class all made us Thank you cards for the meal (hand turkeys and such). It was really sweet and even that kind of stuff makes me cry. (Of course my dd was in that class and she hears from us all the time about how we are not appreciated...so I think she had a pretty big hand in that treat)

When I was in school my parents always sent us with a candle for Christmas, she always seemed to appreciate it. She always gave us huge bags of candy for Christmas! She was amazing.... sadly now I just drive myself to work daily... hmmm maybe I should treat myself something for driving myself :)

Yes, we love our bus driver!! We give him a $20 gc to Target at Christmas, and at the end of the year. He's a diabetic, so no sweet treats, unfortunately. He always makes a big effort to look out for the youngest kids, and treats them like they're his grandkids. In the summer, he always brings us fresh veggies from his garden.

We've had the same 20-something young dad for the past 5 years. Some of the gifts we've gotten him include:

- a Fleece throw

- a wallet

- a coffee mug for the bus/car

- a Christmas frame the Christmas his daughter was born

- Warm gloves

My IL's are bus drivers too and they also have boxed chocolates and cookies overload on the last 2 days before the break. They love it (because it's a fairly thankless job) but I know they don't finish it.

We don't have any bus drivers this year (well, me, and I should buy myself something LOL) but in the past I've given Yankee Candles to the ladies (like a few votives in a cute holiday holder) and for the guy I have him some cashews, something he can eat over time, LOL.

A G/C is a great idea though...and I honestly didn't think of the front office ladies, the librarian or the janitor!

I've always given goodies to the janitors, bus drivers, school support staff, and lunch ladies.:thumbsup2 My brother is a custodian supervisor at a high school in Hawaii and he also works part time at an airlines. He was a custodian before doing all the work. He told me what he had to go through. (lol) I also know how at their schools the staff is nice and thoughtful to my kids and the other kids, too.

I have given bus drivers and the school nurse $5 gift cards to 7-11, movie gift cards, etc. I have also given the janitors, front office ladies, and lunch ladies group gifts, like a huge fruit and snack gift basket, Godiva chocolates, etc.

One year we made reindeer candy canes - just decorating candy canes to look like reindeer with puffball noses, goggle eyes, and antlers made of pipe cleaners. Some years we have just given thank you cards with candies.

It doesn't have to be expensive or elaborate.

:santa:

We had an absolute fantastic bus driver the past three years and gave him a $25 gas gift card each year. School district switched companies this year and our current driver is terrible and will only be getting a greeting card.
