Do you get trip insurance??

To the OP - I notice that you also asked about hurricanes. If your trip is in July, it shouldn't be a problem. Hurricane season doesn't really start until late August, if I recall correctly.

I don't understand why anyone buys packages at Disney - the cancellation policy is horrible and they are not good deals, generally speaking. They are ok for convenience - but not for money.

We would always get insurance for cruises. See no reason to get it for hotel rooms and such.......

We buy packages for the convenience and for the opportunity to have the Ultimate WDW trip. Whether or not it's a good deal never crosses our minds as we want what we want. So generally speaking, people buy packages because they like what is offered and money is not issue.

Thank you Tabitha for answering my question about hurricanes.

Have a great day

Are "acts of nature" like a hurricane even covered by trip insurance? What about a 9/11 type of event when airspace was shut down for days or folks were simply afraid to travel?

Also if you do get a hurricane Last year Disney and the Airlines let you cancel and reschedule without fees.
I don't get the insurance and was there for hurricane Jeanne

We bought the trip insurance for our trip scheduled last June. My Grandfather passed away and 14 days before our trip. There was no way we could go. Disney was absolutely wonderful about everything. I received all of our money back including the non-refundable flight (us air) It took about 6-8 weeks. I have no complaints whatsoever. I will always pay the $89 or whatever. It is a small price to pay for a big piece of mind.

Travel Guard insurance ($44.95/adult) through Disney Travel really is a small cost for what you get. Fall and chip your tooth at MK? Insurance covers it to go to the dentist during vacation. Lost luggage? $500 person to go shopping for what you need. Travel delays in a connecting city? Travel Guard pays to put you up in a hotel.

Think about all the people who didnt have luggage for days this past holiday season. They spent so much time going back and forth to Orlando Airport looking for their luggage. With the insurance, they would have had the money to buy some clothes and stuff instead of wearing the same thing for 2 days!

As for the "I don't know why people book with Disney" comment, I don't see how the cancellation penalties are outrageous, especially if you only modify your dates within 45 days costing $50.

Be sure to check exactly what you are buying. Some travel insurance is only for cancellation. On some you can pay extra to add luggage and/or medical coverages.

Also be sure to check exclusions. Some do not provide coverage for a pre-existing condition. So if you have a medical condition when you buy the coverage and then cancel because of it, it may not be covered. Some waive the pre-existing clause if you buy within 7 days of the initial deposit. Some will not cover airlines in bankruptcy.

Just be sure to get all the info before you buy.

That is awfully snotty. :snooty: Just because somebody declines it, does not mean they are cheap. I know people who spend $12K to go on a 7-Day cruise that decline insurance. Hmmm...:scratchin does not sound cheap to me.

I agree.. Disney Cruise is not cheap!

The insurance offered through Travel Guard, which is what is used for the packages booked through Disney does cover natural disasters such as hurricanes. In the case of a 9-11 type event that would also be covered because it is considered a travel delay caused by carrier delay.

go to www.insuremytrip.com and they will give you 5 quotes for trip insurance after answering questions. You can view the coverages before you decide too. Just bought some before my August trip.

You need something to help you if you miss that boat! I fly out of MSP so we are subject to a snow storm at the drop of a hat! The day I cruise it would be the storm of the century so I got the insurance for Disney Cruise but not for Disney world.
