Do you get really into Halloween?

My sister has a Halloween party every year so we all dress up and go to that. She usually plans it for a weekend night around Halloween so we are still able to be home for trick-or-treaters on the actual day. She gets very into it and even won't let people in if they don't have costumes on!

EsmeraldaX, she also goes to Salem, MA every year with her DH. This year, they are going the weekend before Halloween. I've been to Salem, but not around Halloween.

At my house, I'll put out a few decorations, a light-up Jack O'Lantern in the window, pumpkins outside, black cat candles, etc. Sadly, we don't get a lot of kids because there are a lot of retirees with no young children in our neighborhood. When we move, we'll be sure it's to an area with lots of kids.

Not really. I haven't since I last went trick-or-treating as a kid. We don't have a lot of kids in the neighborhood, so we don't have many trick-or-treaters. Maybe part of it is not having kids myself. I do enjoy helping my nieces pick out their costumes. I'm buying the youngest (he's 6 months old now) his first costume--a pumpkin--because he's my godson. I do love the candy, however!

I''m more into Thanksgiving/Christmas. I love getting together with family and cooking, and those two holidays inspire me.

I love Halloween too. It's just a lot of fun! Sometimes I dress up, sometimes I don't. Haven't decided yet for this year, but since we're having a Halloween Party, I probably will come up with something!

Yuck! I do it for the kids though. I didn't even like it when I was a child.

I did like it, but never went overboard. And the girls have fun. And my neighborhood goes crazy which makes it fun to Trick or Treat. Unfortunately my youngest's b-day is 10/29, so we have a hard time having birthday fun that does not get wrapped into Halloween. With other DD being a Decemebr baby, I try really hard to keep their birthdays separate from holidays!

I love Halloween and the entire season of Autumn :D . The changing leaves, the cooler temps. , pumpkins, I love it all! Salem is a lot of fun and I hope we are able to go next year. This year I have something going on every weekend until November  .

I know what you mean. My birthday is in early Nov. and my brother's is in early January and when we were kids, we always had birthday/holiday parties.

So glad that there's a lot of folks here who get into Halloween. :) It's such a fun time.

tnkrbell - That's a great picture! Does he paint the walls?

Re: Salem - I go there all the time. There is sooo much to do there that is not Halloween related, I agree. We love to go out on the schooners and other cruises, and the shopping is great. :)

I have always decorated for Halloween. DH used to make fun of me since I was decorating just for us to see...okay, just for me. ;) I even would carve pumpkins. But now that we have DS, I have an excuse to get more into it. ;)

For the three years I was in law school, we had Halloween parties and we always dressed up. We were drew carey and Mimi, fred and wilma, and charlie brown and lucy. Last year we went to a friend's house and we were crayons, I was yellow, DH was Blue and DS was green (get it? ;) ).

This year, we will be taking DS to "Boo at the Zoo". It's trick or treating at the local zoo...should be fun! And safe. DS doesn't really eat the candy yet, but I think it'll be fun for the three of us. He'll probably be dressed as Mickey Mouse. :)

I LOVE the fall and Halloween!!!!!! I can't wait to get my kids costumes (already have all 3, see the littlest one in my sig!) I get so excited to bring out all my Halloween decorations on Oct 1st!! On Halloween night, I play the music from the Haunted Mansion and put it in our front window!! It sounds great! Halloween is my 2nd favorite holiday after Christmas. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I absolutely love Halloween. I go all out decorating both the inside and outside of my house. I'm already in the spirit. I made this candy box yesterday!

OMG that is SO CUTE!! Send one my way! :bounce:

I love Halloween!

I haven't dressed up in a costume for it in years--that's not my things--but I love to decorate the house and make Halloween-themed crafts and treats. I am the pumpkin carver in this house. And I love to eat fresh roasted pumpkin seeds.

I live in what is the friendliest, happiest neighborhood imaginable. And all my neighbors come out on Halloween. With costumes or without--to chat and give out treats (sometimes tricks ;) ).

Halloween is always a fun day and night on this street. :)

Have you tried having 1/2 years parties for them for their friends. I know some people with birthdays around the holidays that do this for their kids. They get to celebrate 2X a year - once with family, once with friends & have a great time.

As for Halloween - I've never been overly excited about it. When my DD's were real young I had fun making costumes out of pj's or sweatsuits for them, but they are older now. I have about the creativity & talent of a stick when it comes to making things - especially Halloween costumes. They're at the point where they just throw on a "bum" outfit to trick or treat with friends.

I decorate the outside of my house a little, but really don't have many Halloween decorations - I guess I'm cheap because I can't bring myself to spend a ton of money on something that I bring out once a year - I need to get over this!!! Actually, the older I get the less enthusiastic I am about decorating - maybe because I'm the one that has to put them all up & then I have to take them all down.

I do love handing out candy to the kids though & seeing all the different costumes that they have - especially the little ones. They are so cute & so adorable! :D

Okay, next question. How early do you put up Halloween decorations? I used to put them up by the end of September in Missouri. Since it is so warm here, I feel kind of strange doing it.

No, I don't get really into Halloween. I don't know why- I guess I just don't care for all of the witch/ghoul stuff. I do like to dress my kids up and go trick or treating, carve a pumpkin, and maybe have some autumn decor on my front porch and maybe a decoration or two around the house. I also like to pass out candy to the (few) neighborhood kids who come to our house. That's the bummer part about living up a hill of a dead end....not a lot of trick or treat action.

Definately a big halloweenie fan here,, along with dw and all ourt friends, This year we are going to put on a haunted house for the public trying to raise money to help a friends son participatre in people to people European exchanger next summer We alerady have lots of decorations ready, i'm going to build a guiotine a few sets of stocks, a rack, an electric chair and a couyple other torture deviuces, we are building all our props our selves and are hoping to get a good turn out. last year the week end prior to my accident we went and bought over a thoiuisand dollars worth of halloween decoratrions, including a fog machine and a few animated life size figures , We normally host halloween party atr our house if we arent part of a haunted house. Am lkooking forward to this one we havent done one in 6 yeras so we are all ready..lol...

I too love Halloween !!! the most fun for me is making my kids costumes, I start thinking about what they will be a few months before hand so I can come up with something unique and totally different !! Unfortunately my costume making will end because my kids will be 11 and 15 .... but.... I can still make my own !!!

feralpeg.... I absolutely love your candy basket!!! It's absolutely adorable !!!! ::yes::
