Do you get MLK day off?

Do you have to work today? I work at an office and we have to work today. I wish we got today off with pay. I expect that most people who work in retail, restaurants, or hospitals have to work today, but I was really surprised to see that just about every business in our office park is open.

Nope. We have floating holidays that people can use for today and for religious holidays like Yom Kippur or Good Friday.

Yep, I have the day off. I work at a college. I'm actually taking care of email this morning--this is the opening week for spring semester which is a really busy time for me. I want to get as much taken care of as much as possible before I'm bombarded tomorrow.

We do have it as a floating holiday. So I am at work today (while it is quiet and calm and no traffic). I will use this floater for a day when all my clients are at work and the traffic sucks!

I'm off today. I work for the state of Kentucky. I think most states give this day off to their employees.

I'm a state employee (University employee) and I too have the day off; plus have a floating holiday that I can use anytime of the year.

I work for a public school and I do not have to work today BUT the school is calling it semester break not MLK.

No, I don't. I work for a union contractor, but I am non-union. Most of our field personnel(laborers) have the day off. I don't mind though. Means my phone will ring much less today. Plus, traffic is non existent.

It is a holiday for our company but sales service works because some of our customers are open as well as our mills will be shipping. If sales service works that means someone in my dept has to be here. Which today means me.

Being retired from my "day" job, technically I get every holiday off and every day in between. As a free-lance musician, though, there are no holidays, but I just happen to have nothing today.

No, I've been here since 7:15. I will leave at 4:30 so I can do some shopping on my way home. I don't mind working on days like today, the trains are empty, the office is quiet, and my phone doesn't ring much.

DH works at WDW, and they get paid for today, but he's working. Double pay! And me? Well, being a SAHM, I NEVER get a day off!

Yep! I'm working today. My company is in the IT field. DH works at a university and is also working, but he's also in the IT part maintaining the servers and such for the medical library.

We have it as a floating holiday but I decided to save that day off for when I really need it. Since I just had quite a long holiday for Xmas/New Years, I can tolerate coming in today. Plus, I got here a half hour earlier than sual, so I can cut out at 3:30 and get home by 4:15 (no traffic at all!).

DH works for a SUNY (State University of New York) university and is working today. But he's also not in the teaching field. He's a Network Systems Administrator for the medical portion of the college even though he is on the hospital side of campus.
