If you are a Florida resident, you get a lesser rate for a renewal of an Annual Pass. Is this true for all APs?

Yes it is. New AP's currently sell for $392.99. At the end of your one year, you can renew that pass for $350.39 within 30 days of your renewal date. Prices are subject to any future WDW increases.

We never renew ours b/c our trips are not real close together. I think we're better off paying the extra $ instead of having "dormant" passes for six or more months.

The $ we would save by renewing would be eaten by the number of months we would not be using the pass. The reason being, if you renew your current pass, the renewal pass is immediately activated. When you purchase a new pass (providing you don't purchase it at WDW or MCO DS), it is not activated until you first use it. For a FL resident who goes to WDW often, renewal would save $.

This was a really sore spot with Florida residents when they changed the way they renewed Seasonal and AP's. You used to renew at the renewal rate and get a voucher which did not START until you activated it at Guest Relations. This effectively extended the value of your AP. Now IF you renew, the AP is effective from the expiration date of your LAST AP. It would be interesting to see if that was a good business move on Disney's part. Personally I now only get an AP every other year, at the most.
