At my work, no one gets a lunch break. I am here from 11am - 5pm (unless we have to stay late like tonight, and I'll probably be here till about 6 - 6.30) and I get no break. Everyone else is full time, and they don't get lunch breaks either. Its 3pm, and everyone is finally getting something to eat real quick, (while we work of course ;)) and thats it.

Sometimes someone will run to Wendys.....

So what about you? Do you have a scheduled lunch break? And if so, how long is it?

Everyone at my office gets a lunch break. You can take it whenever you like. There are no assigned lunch times.

Technically it is 30 minutes, but we also get two 15 minute breaks so we really have an hour. I wish I could take my breaks at the end of the day and leave 30 minutes early, but that isn't allowed. A one hour lunch is just a big waste of time, IMHO. I would much rather get out of work earlier.

Anyone who works more than 4 hours gets a 15 minute break (paid). Anyone working more than 6 hours gets a 1 hour (unpaid) lunch. Sometimes we'll do 30 minute if it works out better for a particular schedule, but we are very strict about taking your breaks and lunches, as in you really do have to take them.

No lunch break here because it's kind of hard to be able to do that, especially during our busy season. We get free food from the kitchen (shhhh! the other employees don't know!) and are able to eat, but if something comes up we need to get right back to work. Kind of stinky to still have the lunch hour taken out of my paycheck (I'm hourly), but I feel the free food balances it out.

I work in a hs kitchen/cafeteria. Most of us work 4 hours a day (except a few full timers) and we ALL get a 15 minute paid break at 1:00 (the f/t get 1/2 hr). We all go at the same time and eat together. Makes it kind of nice to sit and talk to each other...Most of the day is spent focused on our specific jobs for the day. We also eat for free because we eat whatever is extra from the school lunch (and we have pretty good food!) (whatever is left after we eat has to get tossed in the trash).

What state are you in? What type of work do you do? I would think there is some sort of regulation that says you should be getting a break of some sort.

At my store, we get 30 minutes for any shift over 5 hours. If we are there over 8 hours, we also get two paid 15 minute breaks. (you just get one for 4-8 hour shifts)

When I worked at Lowe's, we got an hour lunch for shifts over 6 hours.

ETA ~ The lunch breaks are unpaid.

At my last job (a receptionist) I worked 48 hours a week and never took a lunch. I technically got a lunch but I had to find someone to cover the desk while I went which was always a big PIA as most people would say no or moan and groan about having to do it so it was worth it just not to take a lunch. My current job (a paralegal) I get an hour every day and since my job is not directly dealing with the public I can go whenever I want for the full hour. I never knew how much I could get done in a hour! I go to the bank, grocery shopping, meet friends for lunch, etc. I love it and feel so much more refreshed coming back :goodvibes

All of my lunch breaks have always been unpaid and we don't clock in and out so most of the time if I have nothing that I need to do and I'm done eating in 20 minutes I'll just come back to work.

We give our two employees a 30 minute paid lunch break. They work it out amoungst themselfs when to go so not everyone is gone at once. One employee works 5 hours and the other 8 hours a day.

We get a 15 minute paid break for every 4 hours worked, and a 30 minute unpaid for every 8 hours worked. Sometimes I just take my 2 15 minute breaks, skip my lunch break and leave half an hour early.

I voted yes, just because most times I work 8 hour shifts. We are union, and because of our contract, if we work less than 7.5 hours, we do not get a meal break. If we weren't union, we would get a meal break after 5.5 hours.

We get 1/2 hour meal breaks, and a 15 min. break for a 7.5 hour shift, a 1/2 hour and 2 15 min. breaks for 8 hours, and 2 15 min. breaks for 6.25-7.25 hours, and one 15 min. break for anything under 6.25 hours

I got an hour of non paid time and yes, I take it. Anything over 6 hrs here gets an hour lunch. I am also supposed to get 2 15 min. breaks but I rarely take those.

I get a 45 minute lunch break every day, but iften spend a lot of that still working anyway.

I put "no". I work through my lunch. Sometimes we stop and eat for 10 minutes and then continue. Or eat while we watch something or import a file. Other times I am taking bites while hitting the keyboard.

When I worked at the restaurant we did not get an actual meal break.

If it was slow we could have the cook make us something, or we could eat from the buffet, but we were still up and down taking care of our customers, and still getting new customers during that time too.

On Sundays, when I opened at 7:00 I would have the cook make breakfast for me and I always just hoped to be able to eat a few bites of it before someone else came in but many times I had to put it under the heat lamp because I just couldn't get back to it, or worse case scenario throw it away because it got all dried out and gross. :(

The only time I could sit down to eat and not really be bothered was after my shift was over on Sunday. I would wait until I was no longer taking tables, and wait even longer until I just had one or maybe two tables. They were usually pretty close to being finished, so I didn't have to check on them much, and sometimes they'd even had dessert, had their bill and were just sitting at the table chatting. I liked to wait until after all my tables were gone, so I could get the tips, so that's when I would quite often have lunch on Sundays. Since I was waiting I figured I might as well eat anyway. :)

I know some restaurants you were given regular breaks and a mealtime, and the other servers had to cover for you and vice versa. We didn't have it like that though.

me, I work from home so I get to do whatever I want.
DH's office gets a 1 hour unpaid lunch and 3 paid 15 minutes breaks throughout the day...he works 9-6.

I voted "Other" because I technically get a 30 minute lunch break, but I'm usually too busy to take it. I work for a school district, so I get out by 3pm so I really don't mind eating when I get home. Sometimes if I give myself a prep time, I might eat while I type, but usually not.

I'm a teacher, so I don't get a lunch break. I take my students to the cafeteria, sit next to them and eat my lunch, and supervise. Occasionally, we'll get a duty-free lunch.

I voted "other".

I'm a 1st grade public school teacher who's supposed to get a 25 minute duty-free lunch. As any teacher can tell you....we never get our full 25 minutes due to MANY reasons.

It ends up being a 20 minute lunch & I eat my sandwich while walking down the hall from the office back to my classroom. :teacher:

I am in the State of Maryland and there are no laws on the books in Maryland that say an employee has to be given a lunch break or any kind of break. The laws only cover those employees under the age 18.
