Do you fondue?

Ooooo...thanks for the recipes and ideas! DH might be going on a "male-bonding" trip soon, and that's always my cue to buy myself something frivolous. :teeth:

Fondue is a Christmas Eve tradition for my family (except when we're at WDW!) We usually cook steak in oil... also cheeseballs (cheddar cheese coated in egg and cracker crumbs).

I've also done cheese fondue. Yum!

Fondue is a Christmas Eve tradition in my husband's family too. We go to my mother-in-laws every year and it is a highlight for us. We do cheese fondue though.

I also do it a few times a year. The kids think it is fun, plus they get to practice "fondue manners" befor we get to the in-laws. :teeth:

You know if you drop your dipper in the cheese, you have to kiss the person next to you! :teeth:

Ooooo...I'm picturing a whole other kind of party now! :teeth:

I bought myself a fondue pot for Christmas last year and I have still never used it. :rotfl:

BTW, I like your signature pic. :rotfl2:

I'd like to hear more about fonduing with broth or oil. Do you cook meats and veggies right in the pot? This sounds like Shabu-Shabu from Japan. Anyone have recipes?

God, do I love fondue!!! We haven't ever done it at home, but I think I would like to try. We LOVE the Melting Pot! Also there is a place in Atlanta called Dante's Down the Hatch - you can actually have your dinner on a pirate ship that is "docked" right in the middle of the place! Love quirky places like that!

Does anyone have recipes for cooking your meats/veggies in a broth? I'm not too fond of the oil, but would love to try a broth at home!

We do!!! Mostly on Christmas eve at my family party but sometimes during the year I'll get a craving. Mostly we do cheese but sometimes chocolate (white chocolate or I get a headache). The recipe someone gave above for the swiss/beer mixture is the one I use and it's very subtle but very good with a nice bakery bread. I have an electric pot and a regular pot. I like the regular pot with using the gel best.

We put the oil right in the pot and cook the meat directly in the oil. We don't use a recipe per se...we just dust some beef, chicken, and sausage with cajun seasoning and then fondue them in the oil.

Does the meat cook fast? Too fast? I just worry about undercooking it, esp with the kids doing it, and then I'd probably overcook it (as usual  ).

I'm heading out to buy it! :cool1:

looks like this thread had been dead for a while, but I just found it and must reply, for my DDs 3rd birthday we did a Pooh Bear theme and the desert was chocolate fondue which we labeled "little black rainclouds"

I love fondue but not at home- we go to The Melting Pot once or twice a month for it.

Yes! We have a cast iron fondue pot that we bought in France and an electric one we got in the US. We use the electric one for broth and the cast iron one for chocolate. The kids LOVE it!
