We took my ILs out to dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for their 50th wedding anniversary tonight. We had 12 people in our party. My brother inlaw got up 6 times during dinner to go to the lounge to watch the North Carolina/ Wake Forest basketball game. The game went into triple overtime. He was absent from the table for long periods of time. My niece had to keep telling the wait staff not to take his food. He didn't even go to either of these colleges. I felt his behavior was extremely rude to my inlaws. I graduated from Carolina but I felt that this evening was about my wonderful inlaws not whether or not my alma mater won a basketball game. Do you find his behavior rude?

:D

Unless the Yankees are playing, it's extremely rude.

The same thing happened during my wedding reception. All the Indiana and Kansas guests had to keep checking the score.

Yeah, it's a bit rude, but nothing to make an issue over. I bet BIL's always a bit rude.

It was very rude. Reminds me of our wedding reception when 2 guests brought small TV's so they could watch the Notre Dame vs Ohio State football game.

Oh well, what ya gonna do?

Momof2inPA,

On the way home my husband said, "once a jerk, always a jerk."

What burns me though is how good my inlaws have been to Mike and he didn't have the courtesy to be respectful of their special evening. We wanted to do a big party for them but all they wanted was a dinner with the family. We would never say anything to Mike about his behavior because he is a grown man. Yes, he has always been rude.

rude. man, i think i'd get upset if people were more interested in a game than my "special day," especially my wedding.

It would break my heart if my son behaved like this at my 50th wedding anniversary.

It wasn't just rude it was heartless :(

VERY rude!!!

Is he a gambler? Maybe he had some money bet on that game?!??!

Once everyone was finished eating, and during one of his long "breaks" I would have had everyone get up and leave.

I'm sure having to pay the entire bill would have made him realize his behavior was not appreciated. ;)

Another vote for very rude. Did anybody tell him that his behavior was offensive? How old is this person?

Fifty years...that is something to celebrate and respect. Congrats to your inlaws for making their love last so long. That is just wonderful! Bless their hearts and may they have many, many more years together.

I don't think he had money on the game. My niece is a freshman at Carolina. So his money is going to that school.

Mike is 55 years old. We have been trying to leave him for over 20 years now! He keeps finding us. The man doesn't have any manners and or common sense.

The ironic thing is that we didn't bring our 2 oldest children (9 and 7) because we didn't want them to spoil the dinner for anyone else. We knew that it would be a 2 hour affair. Our children have great manners and would have been better behaved than Mike!

My SIL is a smart and pretty woman. She adores this man. I just don't see why.

We didn't say anything to Mike out of respect my husband's parents but I know my MIL is going to mention it to him. I would love to be around when it happens. She notices everything and comments on everything.

Count 'em...he's been found guilty of being extrememly rude by a jury of his peers here on this board.. 12 votes for rude..

I'm an alternate - and I vote "rude" as well................

Extremely rude and inconsiderate! Couldn't he have taped the game and watched it when he got home? I would not be in a hurry to invite him to any more special events if he were in my family. Of course, knowing my husband, he wouldn't have waited too long before letting him have it for his lack of manners, but that is another story!

Congratulations to your in-laws!
