Do you feel this is enough?

US Airways reimbursed each passenger for lost luggage and distress with $5,000 checks, made payable to each customer on the flight. The luggage, which remains with the NTSB, will probably remain with the agency for quite some time - an unknown number of months (for weight and balance checks). The airline also reimbursed passengers for the cost of their tickets.

Last night on the news (NY area) the reporter was asking a few people and one woman was upset, saying it was not nearly enough for what those passengers went through.

The airline wasn't trying to hurt anyone. And all's well that ends well.

Honestly, if it were me, I'd be thrilled to get $5000 out of the deal. And I'd be pissed off that they were holding my luggage. If they have the luggage, they ought to return it, for Pete's sake.

That would depend on if there was any negligence on their part. If it was something that could have been prevented, the no it was not enough. If it happened though no fault of the company then yes it would be more than enough.

They can't return it they need to weigh the plane with the luggage on it, both wet and dry.

I agree with this :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I don't think I'd want my luggage back after it sat in the Hudson overnight.
I do agree, if, as reported it was a bird strike then it was an accident. $5,000 is more then enough, plus you also get the cost of your ticket back.

if there are no further findings and it is all as it seems, I would be perfectly happy with the $5000 to replace the luggage and clothes or whatever. It seems more than fair and I think it is great that they moved so quickly.

If they take the money now, are there restrictions as to steps they can take later should other evidence surface????

I'd be angry about them holding my stuff ! I don't know...$5k just doesn't seem like enough for the trauma even though the Airline was in no way at fault and frankly SAVED their lives.

Maybe throw in some lifetime free passes?...not that I'd ever be able to use them. No WAY would I set foot on another plane if I had been in that crash.

What about people who have more than jsut clothes in their luggage? Jewelry? Equipment? Pricelss type things, like my Faberge egg collection or my Maltese Falcon?

Personally, I would be thanking God to be alive! Now if somehow the airline was proved negligent, that would be different.

Er, yeah, if there was negligence on the part of the airline, there should be something done over and above. As it stands right now, I would be grateful to the airline for employing an amazing pilot that saved my life and drop that check right into my savings account :flower3:

That's what traveler's insurance is for. I think it was more than generous for USAir to give them $5000 to cover the basic cost of their luggage/clothes.

:confused3 Let's review. A plane crashed because of a flock of geese (act of God). The pilots employed by US Airways saved all their lives by safely landing the plane in the river. They will most likely lose the clothes since they will most likely mold.

Now my guess is if someone had asked her at a party a month ago what she'd rather have with choice 1 being on a Flight with a crash that caused her possible death or injuries or 2 Surviving crash, emotionally upsetting time, and $5,000; I'd bet she'd have pick surviving no matter what the other choices included. Why can't people just be grateful they are alive?!!?? Seriously, this type of attitude disgusts me. They should all chip in and give the pilots a gift.

:thumbsup2 Enough!

I'd use that $ and take the Pilot out for one heck of a Dinner!:cheer2:

Hmmmmm?

Which would I prefer?

A call to my family from the airline saying that I was killed in a plane crash?

OR

Being alive and hugging my family.

Do I really care about those clothes??????????? Isn't my life worth more than any amount of money?

If I was on that flight I would take that $5000 and start a foundation for future pilots, or give the money to the Pilots school. I am unemployed and saying this people. Let's think of the bright side right now. These people are alive. You can always buy new clothes...can you buy another life?

I think that is a fair settlement. This was an accident. No one was critically injured in this crash. Nothing lost that could not be replaced...ie a life. I find it hard to belive that the belongings of most of the people on the flight are not going to go over $1000. Note I said most, not all. I am sure USAIR also picked up the medical bills that was not covered by insurance as well, so show me any out of pocket expense. They are getting a fair settlement for their pain and suffering.

agree. Yep.. I would just be glad I'm alive and blessed that I made through. $5,000 would be a bonus. And yes.. I would give a pilot something to show my appreciation and to let him know how brave he was and did his best to keep us safe.

I would be happy with the $5,000, if as we know now, it was a flock of birds which caused the accident and stellar crew who saved my life.

I would also take stock of my life and possibly change my priorities.

I'm assuming the $5000 was for the luggage and inconvenience of not getting the luggage returned immediately. The airline is surely returning the passengers' airfare or giving vouchers or something to reimburse for the flight. And I'm sure that any passengers who were injured will have their bills paid for by the airline and likely have some kind of $$ payment for "pain and suffering".

So, if it's $5000 per person for the luggage delay that is more than enough compensation. If that $5000 is intended to cover any injuries, then I don't think it is enough.
