Do you feel the motion/rocking?

Everyone always says that the more towards the middle and the higher up you are, the less motion you will feel. For my family, usually the motion/rocking puts us to sleep. It doesn't really bother us. If you hit a patch of rough seas (which can happen anywhere), that's where you feel the rocking/motion wherever you are on the ship. It's really hard to predict if that will happen. Out of more than 10 cruises I've done thought several cruise lines, I have only felt sick twice. Most of the time, you won't feel the motion/rocking due to the stabilizers on the sides of the ship.

I don't know why, but I am never bothered in my room on deck 2. I am often bothered in the dining rooms. It may have to do with which way I am facing and the rocking does help me sleep.

On deck 12 Dream, front center, very little movement. On the Wonder, deck 8 midship, a lot of motion. The enclosure of the MDRs intensifies the movement for me.

On our first cruise Deck 8 as forward as you could get. A large corner room I felts the motion as soon as we were leaving port. I did not make it through dinner that night. I went back to the cabin took meds and went to sleep. My husband said I looked a bit green. I was fine until the last night at sea and the ship picked up speed to make home port the next morning. I think for me it was how fast the ship was going and I felt more motion. I was fine on the pool deck and we even had brunch at Palo and sat right next to the window and looked out. I never threw up but was not feeling well. My husband loved the 3 steaks he ate the first night since my daughter when to kids club and did not finish hers. I thought that night I would never cruise again but we are going again in May 2017. I think I will try Bonine this time. WE did the kids Dramamine and were fine but a bit sleepy with the adult dose.

It also depends on your itinerary, the weather, and which port you are at: If you are at PC, then heading out from port and crossing the Gulf Stream is typically the most movement (the first night). If you are going to Western Caribbean, heading out toward Cozumel through the Florida Straits is pretty good (where the water is the deepest), unless you have weather coming from the northern Gulf. Heading back from Cozumel is typically the windiest (heading directly into the ship from the east), which can affect it some. The eastern Caribbean route is pretty calm. I'm not sure how it is getting in and out of Galveston, but I have not heard horror stories about it - there is not any major current or depth change to affect that port. I don't believe that Alaska has major turbulence. Others have mentioned that Med cruises are by far the calmest.

Our first cruise we were on level 7 midship and it wasn't bad. This past cruise we were level 8 aft and had more movement BUT we had two rough days at sea also. I don't mind the rocking, it actually helps me sleep.

I just came back from my 10/22-29 Fantasy Eastern cruise. On the evening of day 5 (after St. Thomas) we had quite a bit of motion, and the captain was predicting that it will worsen and continue all of day 6 (at sea).. I think something about us close to a storm system (not a hurricane, nothing dangerous). So here's from someone who rarely gets motion sickness (and never had morning sickness with two pregnancies), when the weather isn't good and there's A LOT (like A LOT) of motion, you WILL feel a little sick. I didn't have to take any medication but I was definitely not feeling great. A few members in my party had to take some motion sickness pills.

If you're worried about motion sickness, be prepared

I was also on that cruise and oh yeah we felt the rocking and rolling. It was our first cruise and I get motion sick easily so we came well prepared. (Sea bands, Bonine, scope patches) I took Bonine the first day since I didn't know how I would feel and then I only needed to take a bonine on that one day exciting sea day. If you get motion sickness at the drop of a hat like I do, just come prepared. I was surprised how well I tolerated it actually.

Everyone is different. I can feel every little movement of the ship. DH can't. He can feel the ship in the dining rooms and he can feel the major movements. I can feel every little movement everywhere on the ship.
