The island I live on is not safe but then again, very very few Caribbean island are safe. Crime and murder rates are higher here than the U.S. Luckily, I live in a nice area with private security so I am safe when I am home.

Homicide rate: 4.4 times the National Average
Violent crime rate: 5 times the National Average

WOW! I had heard the Caribbean in general was not safe, but those crime statistics are very scary!:scared1:

I live less than 10 miles from NYC, never lock the door during the day, never lock my van in the driveway, my kids walk to school, I know all of my neighbors very well, and have lived here for almost 40 years - I feel very safe. My town is 3 miles long, 27,000 people, 6 police cars, 3 firehouses (2 are volunteer). There seems to be a 2 degree of separation between all of the residents - everyone knows everyone.

Sadly, I live on one of the more safer ones... Yes, St. Croix is a U.S. Territory, but it is U.S. only in name.

Yes I feel safe. That's not to say that I don't lock the doors and the car and pay attention when I'm out walking, but I would do that anywhere.

If I were deathly afraid of grazing cows then I would totally not feel safe since I can look out my window and see them :lmao: Actually I'm only a five minute drive from town but it is kind of a rurual area. I feel totally safe here....most days my house is left unlocked all day...but shhhhhh don't tell anyone!

sure, We live in a small town, and other than some drug issues(o.d's, busts etc.) there it is very quiet. We have an alarm on the house plus other protection which should take care of any druggie looking to break in and steal something to get their fix.

My concern as a parent is the sex offenders, we have our share like pretty much every town in the country, its too bad they just cant lock these animals up forever, and keep children, and society safe. I just check the sex offender database about every month, and know where they live, who they are, and what they look like.

Very safe. I live in small town America. Population around 1000. The arrests listed in the paper are mostly the college kids from the next town over. Even there, I felt safe though.

Dont lock the cars, tend to forget the keys in the car, dont lock the house unless we are going to be gone all day, however, when we heated with kerosene we had it pad locked. People will not steal you car or rob you, just take you oil

Believe it or not, yes...and I live in a suburb of Memphis!

My neighborhood is very close knit, and all of my neighbors and I watch out for each other. Most of us work staggered shifts, there is always someone coming or going. Lots of children playing all day outside, with parents out watching them. Not a whole lot happens in our little corner of the subdivision that at least one or two people don't see, and subsequently report to the rest of us! It's kind of like a gossipy little small town contained in two streets!
