Do you feel "lost at sea" on a Transatlantic?

We are new to cruising with only 1 , 7 nighter under our belt. I had to pull hens teeth to get DH to go, but he gave in, went and loved it, as I knew he would. We are booked for a southern and repo B2B , so 12 nights total and I know he'll be good with that. He felt comforted , on our first cruise, by being able to see the lights at night from the islands not far away and looking at a map, he knew we weren't THAT far from land at any given time. Given the rising costs and the crappy exchange rate, we will only be doing cheapo cruises - so looking at repo's. Did you feel weirded out by being in the middle of the Atlantic on a T/A - will that worry go away with more experience?

My first cruise in 2010 was a Disney T/A and I didn't feel weird at all about being in the middle of the Atlantic. One person at my table made a comment about being in the middle of nowhere but I personally love the multiple sea days, plus their is so much to do or not to do on the ships that I never really give it much tought. I enjoyed the T/A cruise so much that I did another last year on Disney again.

While you will not be seeing land on a regular basis, we never felt "lost at sea" because there was other traffic around. Did not always have other ships in sight but there were enough throughout the voyage that we never felt alone. Also there are usually so many activities going on that it keeps your mind off the fact that you are in the middle of the ocean.

First TA was WB 2010 and no, did not feel lost at sea at all. We loved each moment! The weather was great and there was tons to do on the ship. I never saw another ship, never saw a bird, bug or piece of land during the 6 days of the crossing and thought that was quite cool! Can't wait to do it again!

We love transatlantic cruises! Did one in 2014, and are booked again next year. Did not feel lost, and lots to do on the ship.

After a day or two......any feelings like being out in the middle of no where, all alone, will fade away......AKK

I did my first transatlantic cruise this past May on the EBTA. I loved it. My husband enjoyed but he was not a fan of being away for over 2 weeks. I could be away for a month!!!

No, I did not feel weird at all being out out sea. It was pretty cool. We did have good weather and calm seas so I am sure I may have felt a bit different if things were worse (though I have never had rough seas bother me before in all my cruises).

We had six straight full seas days!!

I loved watching our progress on the TV in the room each day:

About as middle of the Atlantic as you can get!!!

Never have felt "lost at sea". I've done 4 TA cruises (3 with DCL) and I will be doing my 5th in October... the M/V of the Norwegian Escape. Love TA crossings and the many sea days, still haven't been able to do everything I planned to do on a sailing.. I have also met some of the most amazing people on those sailings and many of them are still good friends.

I'm an avid cruiser and did feel a little "lost at sea" on my first Panama Canal cruise 15 years ago. It was after dark. The feeling passed, and it won't stop me from going on my 2nd Panama Cruise in October.

At some point on our DCL 2013 EBTA cruise I thought about how long it would take for help to get to us in case of a fire. This was our first TA cruise. I did not dwell on it, but the thought came, and I sometimes get afraid on a plane back from Europe. I love to cruise to and around Europe, and we have another EBTA cruise planned.

I've not done a T/A cruise yet, but I'd like to. Being in the middle of nowhere, not having to worry about disembarking for several days, sounds very appealing. If I could feel comfortable leaving work for 14+ days straight, and my wife could get past her fear of flying, I'd be all over that like white on rice.

No way! The only time I was praying for land was in 2007 as the weather was bad but even then it was more the "I want the ship to stay still for awhile" than the "I need dry land". You get used to it pretty quickly and it gives you a great sense of calm and freedom.

Best cruise I've ever had was the 2015 transatlantic. Others on board become good friends, enough that we just traveled 9 hours to visit some, one way!
Unbelievably, there was so much to do that each day we had to bypass some of the activities. I'd go again in a heartbeat!

i know i can look at navigators but it's easier to ask... what activities are there on so many sea days? that is my biggest concern about a T/A

Honestly you should look but I am the person who can not sit by a pool all day and last year some of the things I did were:

Cookery demos, animation classes, trivia, behind the scenes at the theatre, galley tour, numberous craft sessions (family & adult ones), open house at kids club (Storytime with Belle and Alladins Big Adventure to name but a few), Bingo but only with a free card from DVC presentation, Mixology, various tastings, Movies in the theatre, movies by the pool, and probably about a million other things I can never remember. There is so much to do you will enjoy every minute!

Also ballroom dance lessons, lectures, and the cast of the WD Theater taught some routines from their shows.

Wife and I LOVE sea days. If we ever do a Transatlantic cruise we would have no problems being out in the middle of the ocean with nothing to see but ocean. It is not unusual for us to stay on board when we are in port. We have done the Disney Wonder PC cruise in 2011, a 15 night cruise. with plenty of sea days and we never felt like there was nothing to do. DCL does a fine job filling your days with activities, even to the point where you have to skip something that sounds really fun in order to do something that looks even more fun. Look at gismo 1554's post, #16 for just a few things to do while on board.

We did the 14 night Panama Canal cruise last year and loved it so much, we are going again in October. We never felt lost at sea and we had 9 straight sea days due to weather (loved all those sea days-it was great!) There were so many activities, we could not do everything we wanted and the days literally flew by. Hope you are able to do it!

Look how tranquil this is:

We tried to eat outside of Cabanas as much as we could to watch the sea go by!!

Despite the fact that my in-laws have NEVER been on a cruise; they insist that they would be bored silly, especially on sea days when there is nothing but water to look at. This was when we asked them to join us over my wife's birthday, one of the milestones (40 years I think (a long, long time ago)). In the long run it was probably for the best, if they didn't complain about the sea days they would have found something else to complain about (it's in their nature).
