Do you fax room request to the assigner?

Do DVC members using points fax room requests to the room assigner at the resort five days prior to check in? This is standard practice with cash reservations. Or does member services handle all requests when the reservation is made? How much effort do they make to meet your request?

Thanks, John-NJ

making your request while you were making your reservations - use to work fine - however the last couple of years - none of my requests were made - so now I fax - so again my request are made

I generally make my reservation at the 11th month time as soon as I can - so that was not the problem.

however other people have say they were not having a problem with going through MS for their request.

I would made my request through MS first - then if they aren't meet - try faxing.

I generally stay at OKW.However I never request being near HH - I do request near a bus stop and a water view. there are very too few places near HH for everyone who request this to get it. - they have a 4 bus stops and 4 pools - plus the best water view are not of the pool. (my opinion) - there is also a woods or golf view. just depends upon what you want.

I faxed OKW the last time we stayed there because we were not arriving until 6:00pm. A room was blocked for us meeting all our requests. I faxed it Monday for a Friday arrival.

I have never felt the need to contact the room controller prior to my arrival at OKW. I make my requests when I make the reservation & have not been disappointed yet :).

No. I have discovered that all the rooms are at Disney and that seems to be enough for me.

I agree with you Carol. People tend to get real picky with their requests. All I want is a comfortable, clean room....as long as it is in WDW, I don't care.

I'm interested in what people do when they have a request, not whether or not I should make a request. If you don't have any requests, that's fine.

When I make cash reservations I give my requests over the phone. I also send a fax 4-5 days before arrival.

My question is, for those members that have requests, do you send a follow-up fax to the resort room assigner or do you leave it to the requests you gave to member services when you made the reservation?

Thanks, John

I always give my requests to MS when I make the reservation. I sometimes followup with a fax to the resort. I know all the rooms are the same but when I take my mom to OKW, she gets a big kick out of seeing the ducks and birds in the morning outside our porch. One time we had a fairway view with alot of foilage and not many came around (building 28). So I request first floor, water view. Water views have more ducks & birds around. I know it sounds trivial, but it's a big deal to her, it enhances her vacation experience. We had building 31 last year and 43 this year, we loved them both.

I make my requests through Member SErvices. I have never felt a need to contact the front desk prior to arrival regarding my requests. I usually request a first floor room & a non-smoking room both for medical reasons. Sometimes I also ask for Old Turtle Pond Road area or Old Turtle Pond &/or elevator building. As I said earlier, I have yet to be disappointed.

What she said.

Good call CarolA.

Wasn't there a room controller on the boards a while back that said they don't look at the faxes?

Anyway, no, I just make my request when I book the room.

Although I have booked no less than 15 trips since becoming a member, I have no idea what you guys mean by the " room controller". I have always just given a request when I booked and been happy with the results. This trip to Vero, I would love to get the room we had last year. Can I ask for it now, we leave in 24 days. Can anyone enlighten me as to what this entails? Thanks

The room controller is someone who works in the front desk area assigning rooms.

Yes, I remember seeing that post as well. He stated that not only do they not look at them, but they get annoyed with them.

However, it seems that not every CM handles every situation the same way. Other room controllers may look at the faxes and in the Disney tradition, try to satisfy that customer even if it means breaking their own "rules" of assigning rooms.

I don't fax into the room controller and have had no problems with my requests. My requests tend to be pretty basic though.

At BWV, we never make requests except non smoking. We get a standard view room and take what they give us.

At OKW, we request non-smoking Turtle Pond. We have never faxed a copy of our requests. Faxing seems like overkill. I can't imagine a room controller going through 50-100 faxes a day. The requests are in the system, no? Why not just call and confirm the requests are in the system?

I called a room assigner today to ask about this. She was very nice about the call. She does not get annoyed with requests. She said she looks at over 200 faxes a day during the busy seasons. She reads the fax and checks the requests against what's in the reservation system. If the requests aren't there she puts them in. She said sometimes the reservation agents don't put in the requests.

Summer runs 98% occupancy so they have less rooms to work with and you may get one request or none so put the most important one first. During the off season there's more rooms to work with and you may get two, three or all of your requests.

Make the fax short and sweet. Name, reservation number, arrival date and requests. Don't call in to the resort with requests. They're too busy at the front desk. The fax will not increase your chances of getting what you want so, if it's already in your reservation, there's no need to fax it in.

Good luck, John

John....thanks for making the call and posting the response.

Like I said, we don't seem to get a consistent answer from CM's to the same questions. The one who posted here was quite adamant that faxing or calling is looked upon as an annoyance.

I think that each one tries to make the customer happy as best as they can. And Disney gives them a lot of latitude to do so.

Thanks again for posting the information.
