Do You Expect to Sell Eventually?

I never bought with the intention of selling. In fact, until I joined DIS, I didn't realize that there were resales.

I have no plans to sell. The kids wouldn't want me to sell. I expect that if I am alive until then, my BW points will expire in 2042.

We have no plans to sell. But if our daughter at some point tells us she has no interest in taking over our contracts we will sell.

No. By the time my contract expires, I'll be old enough I likely won't care about Disney. We bought in when the cost was more reasonable and advantages a bit more clear cut. Now, if you ask me if we'd buy in now were we younger, I'd say no, nor do we recommend anyone else buying in anymore which we would have done up until a couple of years ago.

I agree. I used to recommend that people at least look into it, but I no longer would do that. We certainly couldn't afford the points we currently own buying direct, and even resale, the price would be a third higher than we paid.

Absolutely! Though it's probably outrageous to utter such blasphemy here, I have already grown weary of Disney parks and when the resorts become a blasé experience, I expect that will be the end.

How long have you owned your points?

We'll probably sell but more than likely only after buying something else. Love our home resort (AKV) but can't see letting it run to expiration. I'd rather sell while it has value and buy somewhere else with a longer contract at that future date (who knows where...depends what else comes along). If we stick with resale then we'd likely keep our 25 pt direct AKV as long as possible for the benefits and sell the main contract. Of course life can change everything but that would be the plan right now.

I've toyed with the idea of selling, but then something new for the parks is announced and I think "no, not just yet". By the time we're actually ready to sell, I doubt our BWV contracts will be worth enough to get a broker interested in listing it, LOL.

We own BLT & BWV and are 37/40 years old. We have zero intention to sell and hope to be healthy enough to use our membership until expiration. But it sure is nice to have the option to sell if things change. We bought in in 2009 (BLT direct BWV resale) so I think barring a huge economical meltdown breaking even would be a pretty safe bet for the foreseeable future.

I know lots of people here seem to be souring on Disney, or at least the business decisions DVC and Disney Parks has made in recent years. We luckily aren't at that point yet but who knows.

As of now we don't intend to sell. When our BLT expires in 2060 I'll be 90. I'm hoping our kids and their kids get to enjoy it.

YES, we plan to eventually sell. Yes, it was part of our original plan.

First contract purchased in 2004; last add-on in 2007.

We didn't purchase DVC for vacation purposes; we purchased as a means to cover a work-related conference held at the Swan/Dolphin/YC Conference centers once our employer quit paying for travel expenses in 2002/3. When we first toured DVC (1998), I recall laughing, "Sure, we travel to Orlando often ... but we wouldn't go there for vacation!" (We covered this conference for nearly 20 years and had related business activities in/around the area.)

We purchased our contracts in chunks (150/25/160) figuring we'd sell either/both of the two larger contracts once the conferenced ended and keep only the smallest (25) for the perks. The conference ended for us in 2016 ... but we still have the contracts, for now. We've toyed with selling ... but I am learning that I don't have to visit the parks to use DVC. We have put the points to work with a Concierge Collection exchange, DCL cruises, Aulani, Grand Cal, AKL/Kidani (I can watch animals all day long!) and the specialty units (love those Treehouse and Cabins!).

So it seems, fo now, that we are finding our DVC points useful for personal vacation purposes. Wow, who knew?? ;)

I plan on retiring to Thailand in 8 years with my Thai wife, when our son starts College (hopefully). Unless Disney builds a theme park or DVC resort in Southeast Asia, or Hong Kong Disney has some DVC resorts, I’ll leave them to my son, who can either keep them or sell them and use the proceeds for college.

Only if we retire to Florida (which depends on where our girls end up). But, we will likely use our BWV to expiration and decide what to do with BLT when our girls (6 & 3, so many years to go) make their way through their lives. Right now no plan to sell either.

We have found that as time goes on our vacation interests have changed. We don't visit the parks as much anymore and we enjoy resort vacations and we are also taking more non Disney cruises. We sold some contracts and bought others as our home resort favs changed. Our adult children have little interest in taking over our contracts so that won't happen.

Sadly DVC has allowed us to see behind the Disney curtain and caused some of the Walt magic to fade. We have learned that Disney will do what's good for Disney, while telling you that it's good for you.

:earsboy: Bill

If I keep my contracts to the end, I'd be 96 years old. My wife and I will likely sell or gift them when we're no longer able to go.

Yes, especially this sentence. It was inevitable, I suppose. To clarify an earlier post of mine, though we don't plan to sell, given our age and the contract we have expiring in 2042, if the dues increase to a point we feel the contract is no longer worth it, we'll dump DVC. In fact, as we eye retirement, the rising costs of dues have now become a major item for us to consider for our budget. They aren't unsubstantial costs.

We bought planning on keeping our contract and have no intention of selling - we are in our early 40's and own AK so it will be awhile before it expires. I guess you can't say never when it comes to selling - Everyone's situation changes - health problems or financial problems could pop up at any time, which would make keeping the contract impossible.

We also bought enough points to go every other year, so it does give us a balance of having enough time in between trips to starting to miss WDW when it comes time to go again. Really -- who am I kidding? We start missing it the minute we are waiting for the ME bus to pick us up.

We had the same plan... Addonitis got me and we now have the additional contract to go every year in ROFR. :)
