Do you ever talk to the CM's?

Oh! Goodness, there was a time I was in Toontown "with" one of the chipmunks and I remember running back up to a guest who had just visited when I noticed a potentially DIS button on a backpack, but I wasn't sure, so the chipmunk just paused and looked at it for a moment, hoping to get a reaction since he couldn't talk!

I didn't realize it until I was on the way out what was going on. I was trying to gather the boys and go out. I had the LGMHs laminated and attached to my backpack. When I met up with my wife outside I said to her, " I think Chip or Dale was checking out my DIS tag on the backpack". I said maybe the were DISers and I would post when we got home.

Sorry I din't fully recognize what was going on!

Great photos Dan! Those would be a wonderful Disney commercial if all compiled with music. :woohoo:
Those photos show show too how much better and prettier a smile looks than a frown! What a difference. Everyone looked glowing and happy! :goodvibes

We talk to CM's quite a bit and find their interaction with us a big part of why we like Disney World. We've met some interesting people and learned some cool things about them and the innerworkings of Disney. Not all have much to say but many do, I'm sure good positive interactions with us help make their jobs more enjoyable as well.

We talk to the castmembers all the time. One time, I was amazed that the person making my hotel reservation had actually heard of and been in the tiny southern Indiana town that I live in. Incredible--there are less than 10,000 residents here. Usually, we have interesting conversations with the AK Kidspot castmembers. Some are more conversational than others, and we usually don't bother those who don't really want to talk. (On one occasion, the castmember at Dinoland kidspot was actually a bit rude to my son when he was talking about dinosaurs. He is young, but knowledgeable, and she felt he was talking out of turn bu answering questions out loud before the other kids did.) One day, we were following one particular castmember around, not by design, but by coincidence. By the end of the day, she recognized us and remembered things my son had told her earlier in the day. We had met her the first time that day when she had a Tarantula in an aquarium. Then we met up with her again at Africa, and finally, at Camp Minnie Mickey, where she got to give my son his special award. We like to talk to them about their educational experiences, since my husband and I are scientists. One year, we had cicadas, and my son was telling the young lady all about them outside the "It's Tough to be a Bug" exhibit. It turns out that she was from California, and had never heard about cicadas. (She was a biology major). So, we told her more than she probably ever needed to know about them. If she were anything like me, she probably looked up something about cicadas that evening on her computer. I guess sometimes the castmembers can learn a little bit from guests, too.

I talk to everyone, too!!

In September, Goofy Wrote me a note to let me know that he knows Darien Lake, right by our house! :)

DH says I talk too much, but I don't care. I get it from my Dad too.....he was a big time chatter.

That was part of what I liked so much in Sept, with the slower time, the CM's have a chance to chat more. I cannot wait to get back and see some of our friends in February!

That's one of the most enjoyable things to do. Most of the CMs are so friendly and fun to visit with. We've had bus drivers and boat captains just make our day - they can really be fun, joking with the kids, telling stories, and such. One evening we were the only ones on a bus, and the driver, who was heading in for his dinner, went out of his way to deliver us to AKL for a dinner reservation. He chatted the whole time about how much he has enjoyed working for Disney since he retired, and told us interesting things about the parks. And we've found out some very interesting things just talking with CM's in the parks and at restaurants. It's so much fun in Epcot to ask them about where they're from. We made friends with one of the waitresses at Rose & Crown, just visiting about England, and everytime we walked through (epcot)England we'd run into her, and stop to say Hi, and she played hopscotch and ball with the kids. Then there was Dottie at the Garden View Lounge, who taught our boys how to have tea properly - she really took the time to make tea an enjoyable experience for them, and they loved it! When we went back a few months later without the kids, we saw her again and told her how much we all appreciated it, and had a ball visiting with her again, and she hugged us when we left. Just fun little experiences like that have made our trips SO much richer! In fact, that very thing highly influenced our decision to buy into DVC. There really are very few places in the real world where the employees go so much out of their way to be so kind and friendly, and it just makes you want to go back again and again.

I do not very often, but that is my nuture (to not talk much, that is). However, my mom is VERY talkative, so I often glean interesting informantion from a conversation between her and a CM. xD
On our last monorail of the trip (on the Epcot track, reeeeally late, just for fun), we ended up stalled in the T&TC station for awhile (they were moving the Pink train, I think), and our train's engineer (or driver or whatever you'd prefer to call 'em) came back to our car to chat. There was NO ONE else there, so we had him all to ourselves. We learned a LOT about the monorails there. =)

I have had several interesting conversations (and overheard conversations) with the guides out in the safari trails, at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. One lady I remember from our last trip... I believe she was South African, and her name was Avril. I don't remember much of what we actually talked about, but it was pleasent and interesting. On a previous trip, I spent several hours just sitting out near one of the fences - drawing and watching the animals. I ended up chatting with two of the guides there. I commented that my church's pastor is South African, so it was nice to hear a familiar accent.
