We talk to the castmembers all the time. One time, I was amazed that the person making my hotel reservation had actually heard of and been in the tiny southern Indiana town that I live in. Incredible--there are less than 10,000 residents here. Usually, we have interesting conversations with the AK Kidspot castmembers. Some are more conversational than others, and we usually don't bother those who don't really want to talk. (On one occasion, the castmember at Dinoland kidspot was actually a bit rude to my son when he was talking about dinosaurs. He is young, but knowledgeable, and she felt he was talking out of turn bu answering questions out loud before the other kids did.) One day, we were following one particular castmember around, not by design, but by coincidence. By the end of the day, she recognized us and remembered things my son had told her earlier in the day. We had met her the first time that day when she had a Tarantula in an aquarium. Then we met up with her again at Africa, and finally, at Camp Minnie Mickey, where she got to give my son his special award. We like to talk to them about their educational experiences, since my husband and I are scientists. One year, we had cicadas, and my son was telling the young lady all about them outside the "It's Tough to be a Bug" exhibit. It turns out that she was from California, and had never heard about cicadas. (She was a biology major). So, we told her more than she probably ever needed to know about them. If she were anything like me, she probably looked up something about cicadas that evening on her computer. I guess sometimes the castmembers can learn a little bit from guests, too.
