People, I am a disney resort girl. I mean, I just LOVE staying at the disney resorts ... a trip to disney doesn't feel right unless I'm staying on property and I've been lucky enough to stay at every moderate resort and two of the value resorts. I prefer the moderates.

The moderate resorts hold memories for me... I remember being 16 and staying at CBR for the first time ever with my parents... then being 17 and taking a high school graduation trip with my girlfriends.. no parents for the first time.. we met some boys our age and walked around the lake with them all night long talking.. it was so exciting... and I went to Pleasure Island at midnight the night before my birthday. the guy at the gate had to literally look at his watch and make sure I was officially 18.

Then I stayed at CSR with my family once and with my sister over christmas one time.. we fought a lot during that trip but it was still nice to be there with her.. just she and I.

And most recently I went to POFQ with my fiance and his family and my family and wow, we got married and that resort now just holds some precious memories for me....

do any of you ever miss the moderates or value resorts? If I join DVC I won't be staying at those ever again and that makes it bittersweet.

I know I will have more awesome memories in the future at the other resorts.. especially once I have kids of my own.. but it is a little bit sad.

just curious.
thanks everyone!

We don't have an over abundance of points (120). I enjoy our stays at DVC but I also knew that there were times when DVC didn't make sense for us.

I will not use points to stay at non-DVC resorts. We like the cabins at Fort Wilderness. We have been able to get great AP rates in the past for a long weekend stays. We typically take advantage of AP or other cash discounts for a short notice, long weeked trips. DVC isn't necessarily the best for last minute trips. If we are only going to be a few nights, we usually do POFQ.

We look at it like having two vehicles. They both serve different needs. You can still have the best of both worlds.

As our guide, Greg Coots, stated during our tour in 1994 " You can visit every resort on property every day of your vacation but you will come home every night when you are a DVC member". We visit all the resorts when we are at WDW and enjoy the ambiance of each one but always want to go home to OKW.

That's a great question. I honestly thought I would. And we have stayed at ASSp and ASMu for a night and POR for a few nights since buying DVC in 2005.

I didn't feel nostalgic. I was shocked. Especially POR. Dixie Landings is so beautiful and carries a lot of memories for us.

But I spent our time at POR uconsciously looking for things, feeling like I was missing things. I realized it was the kitchenette, balcony and the couch. I couldn't quite get used to them not being there. I enjoy hanging out in the room. So when people ask about studios vs. mods. Yes, there is a difference.

And once you stay in a one bedroom, well forget about it.

I still take the boat up and sit and eat at POR. Still buy the fantastic salmon dinner at POP. Will probably always visit. But I don't miss staying there.

Alot of members won't stay at DVC resorts over the high point weekends and use that opportunity to stay at the moderates and values. You can use that as an excuse to still stay at those resorts.

Yes...in general I miss the other resorts....especially POR, POQ, CBR, and most of all Polynesian.

We stay in studios on all our DVC trips...which are basically deluxe hotel rooms to us....so we dont' miss staying at the YC/BC for instance....but the Polynesian is special to us....so we used a LOT of our points to stay there last year and it was worth every point !!! but I don't see us ever using points to stay at a Moderate....so I do miss them. they are super themed, have food courts, and are fun !!
I wouldn't NOT buy DVC because of this...DVC is the best....

I'll be using my BWV points Sun-Thurs. If I decide to stay over the weekend, I'll be moving to POR.:thumbsup2

I love the vals and mods and fully intend to visit them when I am short on points or want to save on weekends.

We last stayed at POFQ before we bought DVC. There are just so many advantages to the DVC's, especially the one bedrooms (like a whirlpool tub, separate sleeping area for our son, a balcony, a kitchen, two tv's, etc etc etc) that we have never looked back.

When we were at POFQ, we would put our son to bed, but we wouldn't be tired yet. So we ended up dragging big arm chairs outside the door and talked and had a drink and watched people. While that will be a pleasant memory, we now really prefer sitting in the whirlpool together, talking, and having that drink. That way, the only people watching we do is of each other! ;)

As others have said, the one bedroom suite really spoils ya!

We love POFQ. We stayed there on our first trip with our kids, and two more times after that. It holds so many great memories for us, and in some ways we do miss it. We also love the entire Sassagoula River area, so that's part of why we now love SSR, too. We may end up staying at POFQ again someday, when we take "too many" trips in a year and run out of points. lol

We have never stayed at POR but we visit it because we love some of the dishes at Boatwrights and we have enjoyed walking along the lovely grounds. We were delighted to find the Ole Fishing Hole, and we'll be enjoying that someday with our DGC. We did go pool hopping with our whole family there in October and it was wonderful.

We're sorry we didn't know about how lovely that resort was sooner. However, now we're not inclined to stay there, I like having a balcony.

Bobbi:goodvibes

we never stayed at the values, but i think of the mods & deluxes we miss CBR the most. it was our first on-site stay (about 18 years ago:eek: ), & i still think it's a beautiful resort (the theming, lush landscaping, colorful decor, reggae music :cloud9: ). hopefully, they'll build a WDW DVC resort like it one day :cloud9:

Dh and I both loved Port Orleans and The Contemporary. Yeah, we do kind of miss these resorts, but don't regret our decision to stay at DVC. It helped that the Boardwalk was also one of our favorite areas.

In January, we came down with friends WHO stayed at POR, and we kind of wanted to be over there too, and well for the Contemporary...I only miss it when I'm on the monorail. I have high hopes for returning to the Contemporary [aka CRV] soon!

Oh yes, we do miss our first "home" at POR, really really loved that place. It holds such fantastic memories for our family. And I really miss that food court:worship: , ALOT. But would I trade it for our DVC at the BC, not on your life. There is nothing like DVC, its truly awesome. But that doesn't make our time at POR any less special, its all really great. I love POR so much that we're going back for a day to pool hop in April, using their food court, then watching Bob Jackson in the lounge. Should be lots of fun! We love POR, but when it comes right down to it, I love DVC more.:thumbsup2

Absolutely not!
I do miss the Poly now and then, but we get our Poly fix just by going to Kona for breakfast.

Nope, can't say that I do.
I still want to stay in the contemporary once and if they ever sell a contemporary dvc, forget all the people who say never charge a vacation. I'm officially stating I will be in debt up to my eyeballs buying points. :worship:
