I have been known to do that as well.
I try to be subtle about it though. Often I just go out to the barn and work out there (work can be just sitting on the hay bales and day dreaming!)... or making arrangements for a "girls" day of shopping with my friends... children not invited.
Just having some adult time and quiet is the thing. DD has actually been pretty sensitive to it and usually knows when I could use some space and just eases up. Once in a while she is "extra clingy" though and I feel like she is in my hip pocket all the time. She is 11 1/2 years old... so when that happens... I try to remind myself that it won't be long and she won't want to have ANYTHING to do with me... so enjoy it while it lasts.
