Sometimes I feel like I am the only person that ever reads! None of my friends or family (except dh) read very often, and I always have my nose stuck in a book. I average 1-2 books per week while everyone else says they don't have time to read. I stay busy with 4 kids (2 until today) but I still make time to read. Does anyone else ever feel like they are the only ones that make time for a good book?

Im to busy to read long post

I work in publishing, so a lot of the people I work with read. But no-one as much as my boss...I swear, that woman reads a book a day. But it works out great for me...she shares every book with me!

You should keep on reading! Your kids will grow up to love books with your great example--and your DH reads too, so it's doubly great. My mom loved to read and almost all of my sisters and brothers love to read. My SIL reads all the time and her kids--13 yr old twin boys and a 10 yr old girl--love to read too!

I love, love, love to read. I'm so glad my kids (and DH) do, too.

hipporina, have you read any of Karen Kingsbury's books? She's adopted three kids for a total of six and adoption is often part of her stories.

I also love to read, as do my kids.

Brermom, I LOVE Karen Kingsbury's books. I love to read the forwards/afterwards where she updates us on all the kids. God has really blessed her and those kids!
I think I have read all but one or two of her books now. I just finished the Redemption (Baxter) series, and am looking forward to her sequel to "One Tuesday Morning".

I have never heard of that author. What kind of books does she write? Are they uplifting or sad? I don't like to read books that are downers because they impact me too much. I sobbed my way through The Notebook one Saturday and walked away feeling very depressed. What is your favorite of her books? I am always looking for a new author to read.

Karen Kingsbury writes Christian fiction. I find it to be wonderfully touching, as well as a great story. She really finds scripture to back up her point as well. I haven't found them to be particularly "light" reading, but well written. She just published "Ocean's Apart" and that was well done. A good one to start with.

Nope just the opposite. Most of my friends are readers. Most of my family are big readers.

I am usually shocked to find out someone I know doesn't like to read

Agreed. Not always easy to read, but well-researched. I think a good author is one where you don't know everything will turn out fine or that the heroine always dies. Hers seem very real. I love the Biblical backdrop of her stories.

I feel like I am always begging people to read!

I love to tell people about the books I read, and sometimes I think that people just don't care? I wish I had more people to share books with...

AND THAT IS WHY...

WE NOW HAVE A DIS BOOK CLUB!

I love to read and (so far) DD does too. We read several books a day together and she will usually ask people to read to her rather than play with toys. DH is not much of a reader. I have decided to try to find books for him that he will like to get him back into reading.

My Mom never read books much, but lots of magazines. My Dad was always reading the latest Tom Clancy book. I am also lucky that my MIL and SIL both love to read. MIL goes to garage sales and buys every book that is in good condition. She has 6 tubs of books at home  waiting for when she retires. I love that I can borrow books from her and SIL. :)

Dh NEVER reads...I always have a book going...

recently I decided to re-read the "Shopaholic" books (great summer reads I think) and I had to SEARCH my house for the last one - Shopaholic ties the Knot (which I'm still reading)

Finally found it in a big Crate and Barrell box downstairs that never got unpacked when we moved in last November...the box was FULL of books...I actually got excited...all these books to read now!

I love to re-read books too...doesn't bother me in the least...my mom is a book junkie too...I always get her Barnes and NOble gift cards as gifts...she picks out great books...then passes them on to me when she's done!

I've lent MANY books to one of my friends...she NEVER reads...and NEVER returns books... :(

Actually the opposite...

In our family we are big readers. I pass books along to my Mom, sister, niece, cousin and her two daughters. Whenever we get together we exchange bags of paperbacks. I try to go to all the local library book sales to have more supplies. But none of my friends are big readers - just my family.

We all love to read in my house, but my best friend does not like to read. I always forget that until I see her with a blank stare when I am suggesting a book or talking about something I have read. My sister is sort of the same way, but she reads magazines at least.

I just got back into reading May last year. Went on a beach vacation where all there was to do was read and relax. I surprised myself by getting through three books in one week!

Now I can't stop reading. Every few weeks I'll be bookless, but once I start on a good book, I'm done for. I'd rather have my face stuffed in the book than go shopping!

Really!

Lots or readers in my family! :) I gave my sister a dozen books to take up to the cottage with her, three weeks ago. She's plowing through them! :)

I am a big reader as is my mom. I've been reading adult novels since I was about 10 years old.

My kids, on the other hand, are a big disappointment. They don't want to read and I can't figure out why. They have good reading levels, I read to them like crazy when they were very young, and now it's like torture to get them to read. :(

Christine, there's a strategy that works well with elementary kids. If yours are that age, tell them that bedtime is at x o'clock. However, if they'd like to read in bed instead of going to sleep, that's fine, and lights out is at x plus 30 minutes.

nope lots of readers in my family. my grandpa reads about 10 books a week. my mom and sister and i all read slightly less than that, LOL. dh reads about 1-2 books/week. and my dad is a professor of education - specializing in reading and literacy. :p

Of my 3 kids, one is a compulsive reader; the other two don't read for pleasure. I love to read; it takes DH all week to get through the Parade magazine from the Sunday paper.

The only things DH's entire extended family reads are religious books. I am a Christian, but I have limited tolerance for most religious books. The in-laws are always asking us if we've read such and such a religious book...we always say no, and I'm sure they think we are huge heathens.
