Do You Ever Feel Completely Helpless?

I have some friends who are not doing well - they've both lost their jobs, and are facing being thrown out of the residence hotel they've been living in.

They also have a storage company that is about to seize the contents of their storage unit and sell the contents.

I am so frustrated - I don't know what to do or how to help. My credit is stretched to the breaking point (my own fault, but I'll deal with it), so I really can't help them out.

I even thought about transferring Rewards Points to them, but the points I have won't transfer backwards from the airline to the hotel. Arrgghhhh.

I know that they are adults, and I am not responsible for them, but how do I sit back and watch them get thrown out?

I'm all stressed, and I can't think of anything else that might help them.

If anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE share them with me.

Oh how sad! I wish I had some kind of wonderful advice for you and your friends, but I don't! Just wanted to let you know I feel your pain! I will say a prayer for your friends!

You're a really good friend and I'm sorry your friends are going through such a rough time. If you attend church/synagogue/mosque have you thought about asking the congregation for assistance? This sort of thing happened several years ago to a couple in our church and several members offered a room in their homes. The couple may have to stay seperately but at least they wouldn't be homeless.

Also, are either working at all? I know they lost their jobs but have either gotten even a part-time job? Given their circumstances it wouldn't be unusual if one or both are suffering depression. Often it's hard to know where to begin in an overwhelming situation like this.

You might also contact your county to see about programs. If they were laid off they could qualify for job training and placement assistance.
