I've always enjoyed going to see the Nutcracker Ballet and we've always made it part of our holiday traditions. When the kids were younger, my husband and I would take them every year or so. I suspect, though, that husband enjoyed going the first few times, but after that he only went along because he knew we'd be going out to eat afterwards.

Two of our kids are now young adults and not living at home, and I'm sure attending a performance of the Nutcracker is not high on their lists of priorities. Or as my son so eloquently put it, "I'd rather have my eyes poked out with needles than have to sit through another performance of the Nutcracker." If oldest daughter was at home, (she's 3,000 miles away this year in grad school), I'm sure she'd go with us, though.

I've pardoned husband the past few years, (though he does still meet us for dinner after the show, ha!), so now it's just me and DD15 who go every year to the Nutcracker.

She, (bless her little heart!), LOVES the Nutcracker! The two of us continue to make this a holiday tradition, and we have tickets for this afternoon and can't wait to go. :)

What do you think about the Nutcracker Ballet? Does your family enjoy going to see it?

My daughter and I enjoy going to see The Nutcracker. Actually, we go to see many ballet productions.

My MIL is a dance instructor and DH had to view many classes, rehearsals, and recitals over the years - we try not to subject to any more pain than necessary. Although, he did go with us to see Sleeping Beauty in Feb.

I love going to see it, though I haven't been for many years. My DD5 takes ballet, so this year my mom and I are taking her this year to see it. I can't wait! I remember being 6 or 7 and my mom and my aunt took me and my cousin into Boston to see it, and we got all dressed up and made a big night of it. It was so much fun!

I love the Nutcracker! I actually have the musical score CD in my car. Yes, I listen to the Sugar Plum Dance during the summer. :sunny: :goodvibes

Seeing the Nutcracker was a tradition when growing up. My mom would always dress us up and go the the ballet. Each year I try to hold on to the tradition. If i can't make it to the ballet, I still watch the DVD and play the ballet sound track all December.

Just got back from the Nutcracker Ballet and wanted to say that we had a wonderful time. The ballet was beautifully done, but I have to say what really made it an enjoyable experience was the audience. There were many younger kids in the audience, I'd say from two years old and up. There were preteens, teens, and elderly people. It was an exceptionally well behaved bunch!! There was no crying, whining, people talking loudly, etc. It was a very appreciative audience and the performers got a standing ovation. :teeth:

Now this is gonna sound funny but my dh loves the Nutcracker Ballet and I hate it. The music annoys me to no end for some reason. He watches it every year when it comes on TV.

I too love the nutcracker it helps put me in the Holiday Mood. I remember when I took my DD who was about 8 at the time. She dressed up and when we got there we bumped into one of her dance teachers. It was just icing on the cake. She positively was floating all night.

Now once my GD is born, if she ever decides to make an appearance. When she is about 5 or 6 my DD and I will take her to her first performance.

My now 17yo DD was actually in a production (Tulsa Ballet Theater) of the Nutcracker many moons ago and I liked it until then! :rotfl2: After that, I was a wee bit tired of it!

for 7 years i was in the Nutcracker. That was hours of rehersals, 10 days of performances, some days 2 or 3 performances. and too much work. As much as i love the show, ive done it too many times to get the joy out of it i used to. I cant go watch it because its too many painful and weird memories knowing that if i hadent gotten hurt, i would still be on stage. Plus my family has gotten sick of going to every single performance let alone sit through another one.

Love Nutcracker. I am sure my daughter will get her fill of it this year as she is in the orchestra for a production in OHio this year. Lucky girls has a job doing what she loves.

I have never seen the Nutcracker Ballet in person, but have tickets to go in a couple of weeks. DH, DS (9) and I are going and I can't wait!

I am not thrilled with it. We took the boys when they were 5 and 9. Big mistake. My little one kept saying,"Mom is there more of this because I really love it and I want to know how much more there will be." Translation:How long do I have to stay here. The best part for him as he will tell you to this day was the cookie and Coke that cost 7.00 at the Wang Theatre in Boston.

ONe of my friends took her son and he sat with is coat over his head for most of the performance.

Maybe it would be different if I had girls and I could dress them up in Strasburg for kids clothes..take them to the 4 Seasons for dinner and then to the ballet. I fought with the boys to get dressed. We had to go to Pizza Hut and then they hated the ballet.

I must admit that I saw it again a couple of years later and it still did not do anything for me.

if you ever have the opportunity see the Nutcracker performed by the Atlanta Ballet -- :cheer2: :cheer2: they are awesome :cheer2: :cheer2:

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get hurt? Was it related to dance? I'll understand if you don't want to answer my noisy questions.

I'm curious because my daughter dances competitively in hip hop and jazz, and she also takes Ballet and Pointe classes. I know a lot of dancers get injured and sometimes it can end a career. She wants to pursue dancing in college and I'm always on edge, afraid of injuries.

Congrats to your daughter!! It's nice to hear someone doing something they love! My oldest daughter and her fiance are both in the performing arts and love doing what they do!! :)

I LOVEEEEEEE the Nutcracker. I would go every year if I could get some to go with me. I can only talk someone into it every 2-3 years.

DD performed for three tears (mouse, party girl, Clara understudy& Chinese) , but I haven't been since. We saw the Atlanta production when we were visiting family, and a friend's daughter was still dancing with the Atlanta ballet, prior to breaking her foot after being dropped.

I have only seen it once in person, I found the first half a bit boring, I almost fell asleep! I really enjoyed the second half though.

Surprisingly my 3 girls have never wnated to go see it. AND they all dance for years....the 2 older girls danced competitively and danced ballet, but they have no interest in seeing the ballet :confused3

Yes, I do and usually I look forward to taking my daughter to see one.
