Do you eat out a lot when staying in a cabin?

I was just talking to Dh and he thinks that cooking on the grill and hanging out at the cabin at the end of the day sounds wonderful!! We decided that we will go to Chef Mickey's 1 night but other than that we will just enjoy the resort!! I might make ps's for whispering canyon at Wl just to have them but we can always cancel that if we don't want to go. I think this is going to be the BEST WDW vacation we've had. We can actually have some quiet time at the end of a park day!! Heaven!!!
So do most of you cook at the cabin as well? I think this is going to save us a bundle of $$$ as well! woo hoo! oh and do you need ressies for Trails' End? Maybe that would be better than WL...

Thanks!

Kim

We do tend to cook. DS has food allergies so the cabins really were the way to go for us. We stay two weeks usually and probably go once or twice to the grocery. I get stuff that is quick to cook though. Lots of sandwich makings and salad stuff. We eat breakfast in the cabin, have a small lunch, or snack in the parks and then usually dinner in the cabin. Then go out to a park in the evening if we want. Although on the first day and last day we always eat at Trails End. No reservations needed. That is really one place where you get your money's worth! We are doing one character breakfast this year, and DD and DS wanted to eat in Cinderella's castle, so we are having a late lunch there one day. Not sure yet if we are doing HDDR or not this year. Have fun! We leave in about a week. Everyone is getting excited.

Thanks for your reply and have a ball!

Kim--don't forget the grilles at the cabins are charcoal, NOT gas, so you will need to allow for the coals to get ready.

We were there in February for 8 nights, and ate breakfast in every morning but one (Donald's Breakfastosaurus) had snacks and beverages in the cabin. We also hit Publix for cold cuts, burgers and dogs, peanut butter, bread, etc. We probably had 2 or 3 lunches at the Cabin, and 2 or 3 'dinners' as well.

The rest of the time we ate in the parks or at resorts. We did Trails End one night for dinner, and it was YUMMY.

We don't do any cooking, but the kids heat up in the microwave chicken nuggets and sometimes pizza. We go to the grocery store and buy drinks and coffee. The kids like a small breakfast. Maybe a Donut or a bowl of cereal. We just like having the refrigerator in the cabin and the microwave just in case. Most of our meals are eaten in the parks. We usually will stop at Trails end for a bite to eat before heading over to MK. Trails end also had take out that you can bring back to your cabin. They have things like Pizza, chicken, nachos.:sunny:

We usually make breakfast and dinner in the campground (though in our 37' 5th Wheel not a cabin) and grab something in the park for lunch. We love being able to come back to the campground and just kick back about 3pm or so. Then if we want head back for evening fun and fireworks.

If you are there on a Tueday or Thursday night the Mickeys Backyard BBQ is a blast (even if you are like me and can't stand Country music).

DD4 and I were downthere for 9 days in late May and had a great time just hanging around the campground on a couple of days. DW had to work during the week, so she was just down there on the weekends (it's nice to only live a couple hours away).

Hope you and yours have a great time !!!

We always eat breakfast at camp, lunch in the parks, and dinner could go either way. On non park days we eat all or most meals at the camper. I can't believe how much $$ we save by eating in the camper. It really adds up over a 10 day stay.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

We would eat every breakfast in the cabin. We also bought luncheon meats and bread for at least 4-5 lunches in (for a 1 week stay), and we would have maybe 2 dinners there (pasta one night, frozen pizza and salad another...easy meals).

My advice is to make a list and stick to it when you shop. We had friends that stayed there and went grocery shopping, ended up buying a ton of food that did not all get eaten, and ended up leaving it at the end of their vacation. It turned out not to be economical for them to have that kitchen. I know it takes a lot of planning before time but figure out exactly what you will be eating there and just buy that (unless you're driving and can take some of the stuff back with you).

I know it sounds rather compulsive planning this way (but who isn't on these boards, lol), but I make my very specific list, fax it to Albertsons, which is on the way from the airport, the day before we leave. We pull in, I run in and pay for the groceries, and am back out with them in about 10 minutes. We've done this our past two trips and it works out great and have very little leftover groceries at the end of the week.

Have a great time!

oooh melk, that is a GREAT tip.

Thanks for the advice.

We stayed for what I think was five nights. We had HDDR ressies one night and we planned a dinner out another night.

The rest of the nights we did exactly as melk suggested. You plan very carefully for what you will want in the cabin for dinner. We did not use our grill but we did Fajitas one night, spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread another night, and I think a baked chicken or steak thing that our friends made (its getting to be a while ago - must go back soon!). We ate another night at Trails End just to save time because it was a long park day - we had planned on a nice dinner out somewhere but could not handle it that night.

We did end up having a lot of leftovers, but mainly from lunch things I bought for everyone which my son did use, but their daughter was and is a bird and doesn't eat apparently. We also left a hefty little tip by way of beer and wine coolers for the maids as we found out only after making a package store run that our friends were expecting!

Hope this helps. We saved hundreds of dollars staying in the cabin. Our total grocery bill for six people - two of whom were toddlers - came to about $250 I think for lunches, breakfast stuff, and dinner stuff, plus dessert things. This was an elaborate grocery run - you don't have to get as much stuff as we got.
