I was reading in Time about the importance of eating beans, and realized we almost NEVER eat beans. They are totally not part of our diet.

Do you it a lot of beans?? In what dishes?

Yes, lots of them. Usually in soups and mexican dishes. My kids have always loved beans. Baked beans and macaroni was a staple they ate with their fingers when they were toddlers. Now tortilla pizzas made with refried beans are their favorite.

Red beans & rice, with sausage....great New Orleans style eating!

Beans, beans.....
Good for your heart..
The more you eat.
the more you............like 'em!

Yes
baked beans with hotdogs and mashed potatoes (all seperate and no bun on the dog)

Navy beans with hamburger all mixed together.

green beans (which I don't like) with potatoes and roast or something.

bean soup.

beans in chili.

We probably average about 4x/week for legumes & more if you include green & wax beans.

In what?
3-Bean salad & chickpeas - pasta salad & side salads
great northerns w/ pork roast
refried - tacos, chimichangas, chili
black beans - tortilla soup, chimichangas, corn & bean salad, maybe chili
split peas & lentils - soup

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Yep, we eat them a lot. We eat them in lots of stuff. Our favorite is just plain ole pinto beans. I like it with cornbread. Yummy.:)

We eat beans once or twice a week plus I love snacking on hummus and baby carrots. I put them in soup (minestrone, black bean, lentil etc.) DH and DD like baked beans so we'll have those maybe once a week. DD sometimes even has them for breakfast:eek:

If you mash them they're easy to mix into things like meatballs or hamburgers.

No way!
Well only if you count vanilla beans in things like icecream or candy, but somehow I dont think thats what you had in mind. :teeth:

I used to eat a lot of lentils but my DS8 doesn't like them, so I got away from making them. I do make lots of fresh green beans but if you mean a dry bean, then we basically have refried beans at Mexican restaurants as a side dish. Not too big on dry beans here.

I like Camcolt's description of beans though!! :teeth:

I love all kinds of beans, except lima beans - yuck. I like green beans and yellow beans, just by themselves. I love Bush's vegetarian baked beans - they are just delicious!

I love kidney beans in chili.

I've taken to eating alot more beans since I heard they're good for people with MS. I have MS, so I figured, what the heck?:D

We loved Bush's vegetarian baked beans!!!! They are so yummy & have them about on average once a week.

We also love FRESH green beans, We steam them so they are still a little crunchy & then top them with some salt & butter! But they have to be FRESH green beans, I can not stand green beans that come from a can..they are way too mushy!

I'm with CamColt! Dad forced me to eat these as a kid and I got sick! The rest is history. I like green beans and wax but that's where I draw the line.

DH & DD Love them though! So they are still served in the house.

We eat green beans all the time. I like baked beans with hot dogs, to me it is a comfort food...Mom made them all the time when I was little. No one in my husband's family will eat them.

I love beans! I have green beans several times a week. I like kidney, navy and lima beans too, but the "gas" is a bit of an issue.

Yes in chilli, refried, in place of meat in mexican dishes, baked beans, kidney and more. Being a vegetarian I use beans in place of meat when we make tacos, or enchaladas. I add them to soups. GO BEANS!

We are trying to eat more salad (very hard for me) and throw in some kidney or garbanzo beans. They are a good source of fiber and protein. With a little mozzarella or parmesan cheese on the salad, it becomes "Italian," esp. if you add beets, which I can't do because DH won't eat them.

You can rinse the beans and use them in salads straight out of the can, and store the extra in water in the fridge (don't let them sit too long without changing the water).

P.S. Christa, I add them to soups too, esp. minestrone. White beans are also good for that.

Cheers :)
