We are going to dress our DS but wondered if adults are expected to dress also? How elaborate are the costumes? Is a belly dancer outfit appropriate for me? I want to make DS a Peter Pan outfit and I don't know what to do with DH.

Or we could all go as Peter Pan.

Do you dress? Do you make your costumes? Thanks for the input in advance.

I asked a similar question as this will be our first MNSSHP.....DH and I are planning on dressing up this year....was told adults do dress (not lots but enough that you wont feel silly)...and its OK to be disney characters....

We have attended MNSSHP for the last 5 years. A lot of families dress in theme. If you want DS to be Peter Pan, have Dad be Hook and Mom be Wendy or Tink.

Adults are not expected to wear a costume but many do. Remember when picking out costumes whether it is for you or DS, think comfort. It can get very hot during the party. You also want something that you can easily get on and off of rides with.

Have a great time!!

Me? No. But lots of adults do. Perhaps 1/3 - 1/2 - and that includes everything from wearing a themed t-shirt to people in very elaborate getups.

In sort, no you aren't expected to wear a constume. But if you want to wear one, if you think it would be fun, go right ahead. A belly dancer would be fine - as long as you are at least as dressed as Ariel and Jasmine.

No, we've been there and don't dress up and don't plan on it this year either. Some people dress up, some wear Halloween t-shirts etc, and some, like us, just go "as is".

We went in 2001 and dressed up. My DS's were Captain Hook and Peter Pan, I was Tiger Lily and my DH was the crocdile. He was a hit. Castmembers came up to him as well as other disers to find out how he did his costume. All he did was wear green sweats. He cut out from red felt the words TICK TOCK and glued them on the front and back of the sweatshirt. Then he took about our DS's Gator Golf game and attach the teeth part to a green hat. Our local craft store had this big white blinking eyes (battery powered) that he attached also to the hat. It was really inventive. We had such a great time and hope to make it back again during halloween. :goodvibes

Last year we saw lots of adults dressed up, but none of the adults in the group I went with dressed up. My sister-in-law and I both did decide to wear tiaras, but that was about it. I love being called Princess all night by the CMs and even Prince Charming called me Princess. Loved it!

We always dress for Not So Scary! I love Halloween though and we always dress at home too (usually different costumes though). This will be our 3rd Not So Scary at Disney.

These pics are from our first year at MNSSCHP in 2003. Myself and my dd (I was pregnant with dd#2 at this time) were Snow White and the old witch/queen:

The CM's loved the Old witch! They kept saying how they'd never seen anyone dress up like her before. My dh would snicker, thinking mean things about me being a natural for the costume or something. lol

Dh and ds were Pirates. Ds is the sleeping boy and Dh is the one with the red bandana. The other pirates are Disney CM's:

We're being star wars this year. Here are some pictures of our costumes but these were taken at home. We haven't worn them at disney yet.

I was pregnant last year in these pictures. but I made my dress to fit me pregnant or not. We made Darth's costume too - not the helmet though! lol

Anyway, we LOVE to dress and the more company we have the better! I love to see adults dressed up at the MNSSHP!!!

I was wondering this too. We aren't go this year, but next year.

I'll have to remember to pack a costume... I love dressing up!

I simply can't decide what to do! Part of me wants to just make some t-shirts for my SO and myself... DD2 will likely change her mind a few times between now and then!

But then, part of me thinks it would be fun to go as Wendy, Peter, and Tink. But I'm sure many people will be doing that... lol

I can't think of other themed ideas that we could do and still stay cool... (as in temperature, because lets face it... any time a grown man wears tights... he ain't cool! LMBO)

I had originally thought of dressing as Cruella and putting my baby in a dalmation puppy costume. Hoping that the others in our group would follow suit . . . (pun intended). Anyway, now I am worried about the heat factor and thinking of doing something with less fur involved. . .

Love the ideas here. Some of you folks are just amazingly creative! :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 I am going to try my hand at making t shirts for all of us!
(5 total)

I do not want to drag costumes on the airplane and the dad and 12 year old would protest a theme... :teeth:

DH and I happily dressed up last year for MNSSHP :) I was Cleopatra and he was a Wraith from Stargate.

Everyone kept calling him Shrek though. (Shrek doesn't have hair, people! :) )

It definitely added to the fun to have people coming up to me and bowing, and to even have some of the Disney Princesses calling me "My Queen" :)

I wanted to add that we are shipping our costumes to our hotel. There is no way we want to drag all of the costumes on the plane and then home again!

I love the pictures of you dressed in Star Wars, looks great. Everyone has great ideas. I guess we will dress!

We have gone for the last couple years. The kids have always dressed up, I dressed up the first time the second I just wore a POTC shirt. DH never dresses up. But we have talked about it and would love to do a theme.

Just keep in mind it's still pretty warm down in Florida in October. Dress in something not so warm!

Have a great time, it's def. worth it!

When we were a family of 4, we did MNSSHP two years in a row dressed as the Wiggles. We had so many parents come up to us to tell us how clever we were. T-shirts and shorts, but still in costume! Little kids and CM's loved it, and we stayed cooler than if we had all been in elaborate costumes!

If I go as a belly dancer will I be ok with my stomach showing? I don't want to be asked to leave at WDW.

I don't see why not. I've gone to the parks in belly shirts before with no issues.

Except, of course, when people buy me free drinks in Epcot - which I thank them for and promptly give to my husband :)
