Mom of three here with kids ages 14 almost 13 and 10. Just like all the rest of you mommies out there we have a ton of laundry. Neverending, right?

Wondering how others do the laundry task in their homes? I usually wash, dry, fold and put away. Well oldest dd 14, puts hers away.

Recently, I started folding it and putting it on their beds or dressers for them to put away. Guess where it winds up? Yup..on the floor.

Now I think I will start washing and drying it but give them each a basket of their own to fold amd put away. If it gets put away, great, otherwise they can live out of the basket.

I don't mind the washing, drying part and think it works better for us because
I only run full loads. Kids will run half a load if given the chance and run the dryer with three things in it if I am not around.

What works in your house?

My DD (8yrs) has the chore of seperating the whites from the colors and regular from gentle.

She and #1DS (12) both put their folded clothes away * and #1DS hangs up his closet clothes.

:laundy: Mommy does the rest :laundy:

*They should be putting their folded clothes away but as I just saw in DD's room they are sitting on her little play table

Generally, my kids are pretty good with doing laundry especially my oldest who needs his work uniformed cleaned.

But I'm like you, I hate to run 1/2 loads so when I wash I'll usually end up telling the kids to bring down their dirty clothes.

Folding and seperating is a chore for them. It started when they were young so now that they are teens, it's automatic. whenever some one takes a load upstairs they just automatically seperate their stuff.

My laundry room is just off the kitchen. In general, I do it since I'm home more. However, since I tend to have do it every Friday it's always been an expectation that anyone around helps keep it going by switching loads, putting in the next load, folding, etc. and everyone puts their own away.

They're all capable of doing the whole process, they just don't have to very often.

I only have one child and she is 16. I do 80% of the laundry. Sometimes my DH will throw some in to wash and dry but rarely folds. Once in a while DD will throw some in or fold if I ask her to. I used to leave her folded laundry on her bed but it would always end up on the floor so now I just leave it in the basket and she has to go looking for it. Once in awhile, if we are all at home and settled down I hand her the folded clothes and ask her to put them away while she has time. The good news is she at least knows how to run a washer and dryer. My husband had to teach me how to do laundry when we got married. My mother always did mine while I lived at home!

DD was doing her own laundry but we kind of got away from it and I started doing it again.

She is planning to stay home by herself this summer. Soooo, I think her laundry and maybe the towels will be on her list of summertime chores.

When my sons were at home, they washed their own clothes. Actually they made a deal and took turns--one doing all the laundry for the two of them one week and the other the next week.

I'm a SAHM, with two teens and one husband. I don't like anyone else doing laundry (with the exception of my DH's hunting clothes...he can wash those himself). I do it all in terms of sorting, pre-spotting, washing, and folding. I'll let DH/kids help a little (hanging up damp shirts and slacks in the dryer to cut down on the need for ironing, and carrying the laundry baskets, and putting folded clothes away), but I do the rest. I have my system, and I want it done my way, lol.

Laundry is my chore. However, my DD14 is required to put her clothes away. But I wash, dry, fold.

I started doing it when I was like 10 with a bit of help from my sister. By the time I was in high school I did it on my own and didn't like anyone touching my clothes and I still don't.

I have 2 boys and I put the laundry in the wash and they dry and fold and put away - except for when I do it all!:lmao: On their behalf I am home more than they are.

I do most of the laundry. DD18 is in college and I still get to do most of her laundry (during breaks). DD12 is fully capable of doing the laundry and has done so on many occasions. We do everyone's laundry together so whoever is doing it will just do for everyone.

I will say that I seem to be the only person who thinks to fold and iron. Once clothes are folded, my girls will put away.

DH is messy and will never do anything and then get upset that nothing is done.

My Mom did my laundry until I was 28 (less the 2 years I lived in OH when I convinced my fiance that he's MUCH better at it ;) ). She would never let me do it. She said her Mom had done it for her until she was married and she knows I would only do half loads or that I wouldn't get the max capacity I possibly could.

My bf's Mom never let him do his either. We live together now and it's quite comical how things are folded/hung between the two of us. My bf had washed my jeans the other day and hung them up on a skirt hanger with the bottom of the jeans clasped in the skirt hanger and the waist almost touching the floor :lmao:. But it gets done :).

I did my daughter's laundry until she was around 13. That was the day she told me she wished I matched her socks better.

My son is 13 and separates his by color to be combined with DH and mine. It would be waaaayyyy to many loads if we all did ours separately.

Laundry is one of those things that I actually prefer to do, but DH will do his own whites and the occassional load of towels.

DD knows how to wash, dry etc. but I prefer to do it.

I don't fold socks or underwear, they get tossed into a drawer everything else with the exception of linens goes on hangers and every member of the family has an assigned hanging area they are resposible to put away.

I have two boys, one will be 16 on Monday and one will be 12 in two weeks.

I generally run the washer and the dryer, and I fold. (I like the folding done my way, and my kids can't fold to save their lives). I stack the folded clothes in a basket and put it in their rooms. I remind them that it is in there, and to put it away. I tell them I need my baskets back. They are pretty good about doing it on the first request, but sometimes I need to ask twice.

I did teach my older one to do his own laundry, and he has been doing it for about a month. He has a hamper in his room, and has about 2 loads worth every week. Unfortunately, he has become really busy with school and activities and ran out of time this week, so I did his wash for him. I still made him put it away though.

My DH folds his own clothes and puts them away. I just put all of his clean clothes neatly in a basket and he folds them when he has a free minute.

DD does her own laundry, including her towels and bedding. We have a washer and dryer with all the things she may need.

She's been doing so since she was 15. Before that, she had to help with laundry, so she would learn what to do.

DS is 7, and is learning how to do laundry. When he hits about 15, he'll be doing his own as well.

Just like they learn to cook and clean and handle money, so that when they leave the house after high school, they can survive on their own.

I started doing the laundry at 11. It was one of my chores. My mom was a single mom with a job and she expected me to help out-and I think it taught me a lot of responsibility (and that is a good thing!).

My 2 oldest DS's (now adults) starting doing their own laundry before they were teens. They also cook, clean, sew and iron! My Dil is a very happy lady! LOL.

My DD14 does her own laundry (most of the time) and has been on and off for a few years. DS just turned 10 and I am not ready for him to do it (I am afraid he will break something or flood my house LOL). He is supposed to put it away...but he just takes it from his basket!
