Do you attend Christmas Eve services? We do and I always get chills down my spine while sitting in the darkened Church, which is illuminated only by the glow of candlelight as the choir sings, contemplating the events that took place over 2,000 years ago.

We do, Pam, but it doesn't start with a darkened church only illuminated by candles. Our Easter Service, however, begins very much like that.... wonderful way to reflect on all the past history. I do get chills during that mass. Christmas mass seems to make me feel calm and happy the whole time... beautiful in its own right too.

I miss MIdnight Mass. I haven't been since my DS's were born. We go to 4:00 p.m. Children's Mass on Christmas Eve. The little ones do their Nativity Pageant and I always get a little misty eyed.

Merry Christmas To All My DIS Friends!

Yes we go to 4pm Mass where the children participate in a nativity play and the chirldrens choir sing. At the end, Santa arrives to give Jesus a gift. I was always a little surprised by this but it is really very nice.

We normally dont. DH is a UPS driver (and yes Pam I do remember they are not your favorite ;) :p ) and he doesnt get home til very late on Christmas Eve. I always did enjoy the service when I was able to go.

We used to go to Midnight Mass before the kids were born. But no longer, we may attempt to go this year however.

Actually - Deena - I LOVE my UPS drivers - I just hate that blasted WorldShip software they forced me to use in January! Out of 11 months - only 2 months have gone smoothly.....:(

We go the the 7:00 pm service - but I would love to go to the 11:00 pm someday.:D

When I was growing up we went to midnight mass every year. After I got married I started taking my dh to midnight mass...he loves it and we go every year. :D

I attend the Christmas Eve service at my church every year. It is usually a candlelight communion service. I love our church services all year long but Christmas Eve service always feels so very special. :)

I used to feel that way but having to sit alone in church with my kids while dh is working (he's the minister) it all kind of loses something. :(

I bet it does.:( Does your Church has a nursery? Our Church has volunteers manning ours (the sound is piped in throughout the Church) so everyone can enjoy the service. Can some teens maybe sit with you and help you out?

I've been to midnight mass for every Christmas Eve that I can remember. As a child we always attended Midnight Mass in our church in the Little Italy section of Baltimore, and to this day we travel to the same church (which my Grandmother is still a member of) to attend Midnight Mass. Its exactly as you described - awe inspiring. I really look forward to midnight Mass more than any other Christmas tradition, and my kids love it too.

Sorry Pam :D I though you were unhappy with them after they had either lost or smashed (maybe even both ;) ) some of your packages. I know dh truck is always so bricked out--sometimes he cant even get in the back and sometimes they do have to climb on the boxes.

We try to if I don't have to work...

And I thought I'd reply to your thread too Pam so your not whining about people not responding somewhere else...;) :duck:

Well - they did completely destroy 5 boxes in the past 2 months - I always wondered how that happened!!:earseek:

Okay Pammy...
Here's the scoop...
Used to go to midnight mass but with 2 kids who are getting tired and a packed church thats impossible...
First of all you have to get there at least 30 minutes early to get a seat and its a catholic church so you can't make a sound...Just whispering to someone and everyone stares at you...
And now I have to work til midnight and am lucky to get off at 11 and usually in no mood to stand in church a hour....with my kids squirming around & what not...
On one these years i hope to go back...
and this is JMHO...please don't let it discourage anyone else...:o

Yes we do.............

We also have carols by candelight under the stars here too........lovley to be sitting out in the open singing carols by candelight.:D
